Suggestion

I assume if I were more knowledgable/experienced then I could fiddle with the set up but as there are so many variables to get wrong I am happy how things are, for the majority of us owners the test drivers at Porsche probably thought a bit about set up whilst flinging it around the ring!

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My car has now had 4 geo set ups in two months. Each time the car is fine when I drive it away but gradually becomes more and more skittish over the following weeks. This time I took it back to find both fronts had increased their own net cambers by over half a degree and one of the rears had toed itself out by 15 minutes. I have hit no kerns or potholes. These shifts were enough to ***** up the cornering and make the car feel very wayward above 90 mph on a good straight road. This time the guy was hanging off the adjustor bolts to tighten them so we will see if that does the trick. The suspension has been inspected by Porsche who tell me that other than so E slightly worn bushes, all is perfect. So - are my bolts knackered?

POST 2Original post

Are the eccentrics actually moving over time? Have they tried marking them with a paint pen so you can see which ones are moving, and by how much? I know it sounds daft, but have you checked the wheels are running true and one or more aren't buckled? The alignment gear hangs off the wheels, so if one has run-out it will give a different reading depending on where the alignment gear is clamped on the wheel.

POST 3Original post

Good thinking and wheel balancing would help to mask the effects. Are the tyres wearing evenly?

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Good thinking indeed but the wheels are recently refurbished and not buckled and the tyres are wearing evenly (save for the inevitable extra scuffing on the inside rears reflecting the neg camber back there). I asked them to mark everything this time so hopefully next visit will give some answers. Very frustrating - I've had the car for two months and it has handled properly for around 10% of that time

POST 5Original post

I don't believe the inside edge scrubbing is inevitable, either rear or front. I have been through two sets of rears, and they both wore perfectly evenly with the car set up with the standard alignment settings. I only suggested the buckled wheel(s) because a friend of mine spent hours today trying to set up a 993 C2S (with newly refurbished Turbo hollow-spokes), before he found out that two wheels were buckled.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hmmm... Would be very interested to know what those 'standard alignment settings' were.

POST 8Original post

I had mine reset recently.original owner before me had heaps of negative camber on the rears and uneven wear9. I just assumed that was correct. I always felt a little nervous on some tight high speed bends like it was fighting you rather than going with the flow. After the reset ( factory settings) the car handles like a dream, I can really boot it into the bends and it feels planted and confident! I assume if I were more knowledgable/experienced then I could fiddle with the set up but as there are so many variables to get wrong I am happy how things are, for the majority of us owners the test drivers at Porsche probably thought a bit about set up whilst flinging it around the ring!
