Suggestion
It is very easy to clean the inside of the wheel and the calipers with the Classics.
Leading evidence: 'Clean inside of the wheel and the calipers' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean inside of the wheel and the calipers' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. Suggestion
Sport designs look great but all that cleaning would be too much for me.

Suggestion
The 19s will have more limited choices & will be significantly more expensive to replace, which may be a consideration for DE use given the short tread life.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

What do you is the better option for a Cayman. 19'
Carrera
Classic (5spokes) or 19' SportDesign???
I can't decide, i think the classic looks sportier but not substantial, and the sport design looks more 'bling' but maybe old-man's style?
I saw the
Carrera
sport wheels in Frankfurt. And I immediately decided to order them. They look fantaaaaaaaastic. Look at the pictures of the basalt black cayman in my gallery
Word around here is that the SDs are the lightest. So if you're ok with the looks and with cleaning them, I'd go SDs. I went with Classics for the looks.
My list from top to bottom would be.......only my opinions......
#1 SDs they do give the car a more sophisticated instead of sporty lookthough.
#2
Carrera
Sstill like these wheels and you won't mistake them for anything else, sporty & cool.
#3 Classicslike them, but not on a Cayman forsome reason. I actually like the 18' version of them better.
I think it depends on the color of the car. I went w/ the SportDesign and Arctic Silver.
If I had gone w/ the
Carrera
White, I would have gone w/ the Classics.
Not sure about the old-man's style comment. SportDesign makes me think racetrack.
To clear up some possible confusion for folks not familer with the styles.

After watching one of the Porsche videos I have come to the conclusion that the standard 18' are the lightest - the only way to prove this will be to measure weights - as people get more and more cars, I hope some numbers will be posted. Forgetting weights and just looking at wheel design, the
Carrera
Sport are a bit wider and may allow different rubber in the back ( I think their offset is different as well, maybe making them flush with the body ). For pure look SportDesign are interesting but will take time to clean.
The Carrera Sport look great and I will choose them for being 0.5" wider, specially helping in the front. Even with same tires in does increase the contact patch.
Also the Carrera sport must be a lightweight design since those are copycat GT3 wheels...
In the past when I used to drive the same car during both winter and summer, I could tell the big difference wheel weight made ( winter wheels were much lighter ) - from that time on, I pay a lot of attention to any replacement wheels - at least to me weight is as important as the look !
I'm pretty sure the
Carrera
Sport wheels can be ordered in the USA now. At least my dealer told me I could get them, but I didn't.
I don't have a SportDesign wheel photo on Basalt Black, but here is a great looking Guards Red.

Also have Basalt Black and went with the Classics - they look great (essentially my car is the one in that great pic above). I think the SDs look great with artic silver and maybe a couple other colors. I went with what looked like a more sporting aggressive look in the classics. Taste issue obviously, but you really can't go wrong.
On the 19"
Carrera
Sport wheels, I do think they look nice. But does anyone know if the extra width will make track
tires
harder or easier to get? And what about getting winter
tires
for it, will they fit those rims? My dealer said winter
tires
will be becoming available for the 19" widths.

For winter
tires
I'd suggest getting a used set of 18' 987 Boxster wheels that you won't worry about ... as much. Remember that narrower is better in snow, ice, or for that matter through standing water. Plus, if your winter roads have potholes like mine, a higher sidewall will better protect the wheels from impact damage. Last, winter rubber doesn't last as long.
In short, winter 19s will be more costly, less available & less effective than 18s.
BTW, much of the same analysis is true for track rubber. Unless you are racing, there is unlikely to be any performance advantage to the 19s. In theory, the 18s will accelerate faster and if IIRC, Walter Rohr opined it was more fun to track on 18s. The 19s will have more limited choices & will be significantly more expensive to replace, which may be a consideration for DE use given the short tread life.
My plan is: 19s for the street, 18s for track & winter. I.e., 3 sets of wheels &
tires
which is what I've done w/my 993 which has worked well. Just my $.02.

Here's the photoshopped image I made which helped me decide on the Classics for my Arctic Silver Cayman - despite having previously been adamant on the SD's !
