Suggestion

I believe the "tape" was put as a "lubricating" layer but as it ages, it sticks therefore causing this issue.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I have the dreaded stuck horn and simply what to pull the fuse until I have the time to do the repair. I can't find the damn thing! Does anyone know which fuse to pull?

POST 3Original post

Can't you just disconnect the wire from the horn?

POST 4Original post

It's located under the left wheel well (I think). It seems like the fuse would be much easier.

POST 5Original post

i recently got stuck with this. horn wouldn't come out and kept on going wayyy past meant. I'm pretty sure people thought I was a bad porsche driver. for some reason the fuse on my 987.2 Row A F3 didn't work for the horns. had to remove Row B F3 for it. unfortunately PSM and all steering column controls including signals were disabled too. Hope this helps anyone who encounters this. It is caused by the binding of the surrounding "tape" insulators around the airbag module.

POST 6Original post

I've just encountered this. Removed the F3 fuse as above - had some difficulty in tracking down the right fuse. It disables the horn and the other bits as detailed above. Plus... no wipers! My car stays out in all weathers. So, I wouldn't say it gets damp inside but there's so much moisture in the air at the moment. It was clear that somehow, the leather trim and so on was somehow all binding around the horn button. Here was how I fixed it... took it out for a half hour drive with the heating on full - very hot!! Kept poking and prodding the horn button at intervals. When I could feel some positive travel in the horn push, I pulled over, switched off and replaced the fuse. Great joy. Problem fixed. I had a momentary panic as although wipers and indicators were restored, I still got a PSM alarm. Pushed the fuses in tight, switched ignition off and on a few times but still the PSM fault light. At this point I decided this issue would have to keep for another day. But... great news! Once mobile, the PSM reset itself and all was well. Hope this post offers a little help and reasurance.

POST 7Original post

hey there boxnut - there is only one way to "fix" which is to clear the old "tape" from around the airbag module (assuming you have the round airbag).. the fuse pull is just to get you home or to stop annoying people. it will likely come back at the most inappropriate time like it did with mine - at night in a quiet neighbourhood!

POST 8Original post

Hmm, is this a home job? Airbag! Scary! Yes, I have the round one. What exactly is involved to clear old tape? Is it the horn push that sticks in the housing? Wondered if I could just rub in some sort of slippery cleaning stuff around the edge of the horn push?

POST 9Original post

I believe the "tape" was put as a "lubricating" layer but as it ages, it sticks therefore causing this issue. Its easy to remove (at least on mine) and you have to be comfortable with removing the airbag module from the wheel and re-insert it back properly. If this is not done properly the wiring harnesses inside the wheel can cause further binding. its not very complicated but I had it done at my local independent workshop who had a lot more hands on time on Porsches compared to lil' ol' me.
