Hi all,
I am looking at retiring my
bmw
e61 535d m sport to the times when I need more space and get a decent 2 seater sports car.
Cayman
is one of the options but I want to understand the difference in running costs between
Cayman
and my current
bmw
.
My E61 535D m sport running costs are:
fuel consumption is about 30mpg
servicing and repairs are done by myself. BMW filters (air, oil, fuel, pollen) costs £130 and oil is another £80 on top. So totalling to £210 every year.
general repairs are done by me and add up to about £300 a year on average.
gearbox oil change is at £350 which is every 70k miles.
tyres are at £520 for a set of Michelin pilot sport 4s every 15k miles.
tax is roughly £300 a year.
So my question is how much more expensive it will be to run 2010 gen 2 Cayman S PDK? How much firmer the suspension will be? I will be doing all repair and maintenance work myself so this must be taken into account for comparison.
Thank you in advance for information!
The
PDK
maintenance is done on a 60,000 mile schedule. At the initial 60k miles they call for changing the
PDK clutch
fluid. Takes about 6 liters which in the US costs around $25 per liter - so material cost - $150. If you have it done by an independent
Porsche
shop (well regarded professional one who has a
PIWIS
) - I paid $350. The
PIWIS
(
Porsche
diagnostics computer) is used to set the oil level. There are some threads on other sites on DIY without a
PIWIS
, done by tilting the car to get enough fluid into the box.
The 120,000 mile service requires again doing the
PDK clutch
fluid, plus doing the general gearbox oil, which is a simple
GL5
75-90W gear oil. So the oil is cheap for that part of the service, but
Porsche
calls for replacing the transmission filter, which is built into the oil pan, so the pan has to be replaced - and in the US - it's around $375 to buy. FWIW - I am not planning on buying the filter/pan at 120,000 miles. The filter is a plastic screen, if there is enough stuff blocking it to impede oil flow - the transmission is already toast. Perhaps two drain/fills in a fairly short time would handle it just fine. (It did in my BMWs...)
The suspension will feel quite firm compared to the
BMW
M-Sport. You will feel things you never felt in your
BMW
(including far superior handling..)
