Suspected cause
So probably the best street only option is Axxis/PBR Deluxe pads which are cheap, quiet, lots of cold bite and don't dust.

They are not as dusty and you can get years out of a set depending on how you drive.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

hi,
just went to the track, I need brake pads. Local indy quoted $180 per set, and $220 per axle. Some quick math, that's $800. Seem steep?
OEM porsche pads, btw. Unfortunately, i don't have the space, lifts, etc to do this myself.
thanks
The Hawk HPS (High Performance Street) pads are a nice alternative to the OE street pads. They are not as dusty and you can get years out of a set depending on how you drive. We have them in stock at OG Racing and offer free UPS Ground shipping.
Kind regards,
I am very confused by your math. Brake pads only come in front sets and rear sets. They don't sell brake pads by corners.
Are you looking for track pads or street pads? Basically there is no pad that works best for both. Porsche "Sport" pads, which are Pagid Blacks are a decent for dual purpose but a noisy compromise. For just street, the old standard was Mintex Red Box: cheap, lots of cold bite, don't dust like the Porsche OEM pads and very quite. Unfortunately, they stopped making the Mintex Reds for the 996. So probably the best street only option is Axxis/PBR Deluxe pads which are cheap, quiet, lots of cold bite and don't dust. They should be <$75 per end. None of these street based pads are decent track pads. If you want better track performance, look at Pagid Orange, Pagid Yellow, PFC 01s, etc...i.e.; a real track pad. Since it only takes 5 mins a corner to swap pads, there is no reason not to have separate street and track pads if you need for both purposes.
10 G,
The indy said pads are 180 per set (x2=$360) PLUS $220 per axle (2 x 220 = 440); 360+440=800.
thanks!
i should have pointed out, it's a street car; "track" was a PCA Driver Ed event - a blast, btw.
Anyway, i'm going to make a few more calls. Thanks everyone.
Doesn't the box contain a complete set of front pads or rear pads? So four pads for the front $180 and four pads on the rear 220.
800 for pads IMHO is very high price wise.
Ah, Pete, since you first introduced me to RL, I will continue the RL circle of life. I actually live a few blocks from the OP. He sent me a PM asking for advice, and I just replied saying effectively the same thing and offering to help him do this in an afternoon. I didn't mention the beer, but I hope it was understood.
I actually just surfed in here hoping to find out what kind of car he had so I could look up how the much the pads would cost, but it looks like he's already figured that out, although I will say that I just had Eurosport put on rear rotors, and they charged me less for the rotors than Suncoast would have. I would have done it myself, but it was already in their shop when they called and said the cracks were at the edges. I must not have noticed.
Allan.....now ain't that good karma! Our brakes are easy to work once you get past the Pcar mystique. I take pride in introducing you to the slippery slope. I'm dealing with a dead motor but should be back on the road sometime next week. I've driving my buddy's (Darrell the other slippery slope guy that was with me at RA) 1995 Toyota Previa in the meantime. I have nicknamed it Sexvia. Hope to meet up sometime again.
