Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1Original post

Coolant in my 987.2 2.9 is low, and I'm trying to figure out which type it needs. The owner's manual is lacking in that kind of info. According to Suncoast parts , it's Porsche 4330105 (black bottle, white label). According to Pelican Parts it's Porsche 43305 (black bottle, black label, probably the same thing). Pelican Parts also offers Zerex G-40 as an OEM supplier. I asked Zerex ( Valvoline ) if G-40 is appropriate for my 2012 and they said it was for 2014+, but for 2012 "G-12 was covered by Dexcool " (exact quote). Anyone able to shed any light on what the truth is here?

POST 2Original post

I use the Zerex G-40. My car is a 987.1 , but I'm sure the cooling system is the same. The key is that the coolant has Si-Organic Acid Technology. I got mine at the local NAPA store and it's much cheaper than the Porsche -branded stuff.

POST 3Original post

If I can trust the 987.2 service manual, the stock coolant is Total Glacelf Auto Supra. This is a silicate-free OAT coolant. I use Prestone in the yellow jug, which is basically the same stuff. It's essentially Dex-Cool. But I haven’t gotten the impression these cars are very picky about coolant chemistry. More info here: Coolant/Antifreeze
