Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

So the rear main seal is leaking. And ironically wasn't leaking, but is now after having a new one fitted when i had a new clutch and flywheel go in a couple of months ago Whether it was a faulty / poor seal, was poorly fitted and perhaps the rear lip nipped up etc, or something else - i can't answer. But: i plan on doing this 'with' my mechanic (I'm a mechanical Engineer myself........not Automotive though !) especially in terms of overlooking the new seal going in. I don't have the official Porsche insertion tool - but will be making / can soon machine up something up to assure straight, even and correct depth seal fitment..... So i've bought a minty fresh and supple (Latest version) seal: 2 x genuine exhaust gaskets and stainless bolts for the exhaust when that goes back on: And have watched numerous video's / run through's here, on Youtube and ********: FITTING GENERAL: WALK THROUGH IN PICTURES: https://********.com/forums/964-forum/1005832-diy-rear-main-seal-replacement.html REAR SEAL INSERTION DEPTH DISCUSSION: https://********.com/forums/993-forum/858054-installation-depth-of-rear-main-seal.html BUT WHAT ELSE SHOULD I BE CHECKING / REPLACING WHILST IN THERE 'AGAIN' ???????????? ** Thanks......

POST 2Original post

The obvious things to look for are: where is the leak coming from? - around the crankshaft or around the crank case flange? Check for seal damage due to incorrect installation. Check for damage (nicks or scratches) to crank case flange due to removal of prior RMS. Check the condition of the crankshaft. If everything looks good make sure all sealing surfaces are clean and dry before installing the new seal. RobT Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
