Initially running standard but once the engine is bedded in then ecu and airflow meter will be swapped out - i will have to check up on the inlet manifold

Suggestion

I drove a Turbo not long ago that felt a bit lumpy on idle but fine in normal thrashing, later discoverd it diddnt even have a balance shaft belt as it has been shredded ages ago, I'd be tempted to run without the belt, you dont want to give those bhps away to the god of power losses after all

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

28 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

Did not know your engine blew - how old was it (miles) ? Could you give some more specs of your new engine ?

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Cam shaft oil seal blew at Brunters - was on 126k - but the blow was no real surprise as the engine has never had any proper work done on it most of its working life. it was switched off quick when the seal blew but to late to stop a fair amount of internal damage. Dont have full specs available but see the emc website for details, fully lightened and balanced, lightened flywheel - cranks etc, but retaining the balance shafts (a compromise for road use), and a absolute bargain at 1.5k - 2k including the fitting. Approx 188bhp standard can be tuned to over 200, bearing in mind mine is only a 2.5 lux n/a not a turbo Also putting in a competition clutch to get rid of that stupid porker one that i keep ripping the center out of

POST 3Original post

Good luck with the new engine, how much weight have they shaved from the crank and fly wheel? Will you still be running the standard intake manifold, air/throttle control flap and DEE control unit? I only ask as I've come across quite an interesting article in an old copy of CCC sugesting the manifold is a bit restrictive and that getting a decent ecu would liberate more power. As far as ECU's go I assume they are refering to a programable Emareld or similar style unit . Sorry about the spanish inquisition, but after a chat with a guy from a local machine shop regarding maybe some work on my spare cylinder head its got me thinking and my wallet is getting worried!

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Initially running standard but once the engine is bedded in then ecu and airflow meter will be swapped out - i will have to check up on the inlet manifold

POST 5Original post

Glad to see you are back in the hooning mode, I look fwd to having a COMPLETE run at the next Brunters meet, not choking on a smoke infested cabin and some professional tuition to boot!

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

No problem chap - will have it run in and tweeked to the max by the next brunters BTW if you want tuition at any time - you should book with rob (guy that was with me) and do a track day with him >> Edited by dontlift on Friday 16th May 14:23

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well car delivered down to EMC Motorsport today - should get it back next saturday with shiny new engine, turbo clutch, baffled sump, various breather mods, new chip, oil cooler, etc etc etc Cant wait

POST 8Original post

dontlift, do they keep the balance shaft belts on then for the track engine? I drove a Turbo not long ago that felt a bit lumpy on idle but fine in normal thrashing, later discoverd it diddnt even have a balance shaft belt as it has been shredded ages ago, I'd be tempted to run without the belt, you dont want to give those bhps away to the god of power losses after all

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

In the full race jobbies they do take the balance shafts out - however given mine is 50+% for the road they have recommmended i retain the balance shafts.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Oh well - i knew it was all going to well..... Delay getting the balancing done on the crank etc, so car wont be back until after the bank holiday now.... >> Edited by dontlift on Tuesday 20th May 15:53

POST 11Original post

Life does that to you,,don't worry a day or two to get it right is no time at all..Let them get it spot on & it won't be coming out again.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I know, i know but i am itching to get my hands on it, driving "The Wife"'s 4x4 just isnt the same, and was really looking forward to running it in over the bank holiday. >> Edited by dontlift on Tuesday 20th May 20:43

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

2 long weeks without my car - but it should be back tomorrow Wey Hey

POST 14Original post

Just in time for the weekend too >> Edited by AJLintern on Thursday 29th May 07:29

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Arrrgghhhhhhh just been put off till tomorrow

POST 16Original post

Hang in there mate,,,hopefully you should still get it back for the weekend..

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Double ArrrggghhhhhH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! EMC have just phoned all back together runs great - sounds great etc, but new clutch isnt engaging properly......... they have ordered a new one in for this afternoon, and are going to work overtime to try and get it done tomorrow for me (Sat) but if they cant get the flywheel rebalanced today / tomorrow morning then it will be monday. I know it will be worth it in the end - but i wanna play. >> Edited by dontlift on Friday 30th May 13:34

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just had a phone call from EMC and all should be ready to roll in a couple of hours play time me thinks

POST 19Original post

Good news,,take it easy running it in,,you don't want to go through all of this hassle again.

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

No fear there club sport, just waiting for the call, to go and get it

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well it's Back And they have done a fantastic job, total bill was 2.2k and it runs like a dream - cant tell you what the top end is like yet, but it has got SOOOOOO much torque it's unbeliveable. Booked it in for it's complimentary first service next wednesday then it's open it up to play time

POST 22Original post

Very nice! Did they paint the cam cover red or was that your idea? >> Edited by interloper on Sunday 1st June 16:56

POST 23 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Nope they had already done it. must admit it does look nice - although need to get some black heat resistant paint and pick out the PORSCHE lettering on it now.

POST 24Original post

You could always try silver lettering like this.

POST 25 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Now that does look nice Silver it is then Just been out in it again, any excuse to drive it at the minute, got to clock up 1k before next wednesday >> Edited by dontlift on Sunday 1st June 19:20

POST 26Original post

That's excellent news after a frustrating few weeks We'll be expecting some comparison thoughts once it's fully run in

POST 27 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

No fear of that, I think the run down to le-mans and back after the first service should give me ample time to play - but can already feel it has a huge amount more torque than the old engine, and pick up is fantastic. - is proving very very hard to keep the revs under 4k

POST 28 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well having blown her up at brunters - stuck her back together with sticky tape and glue. The new engine from pro-9 www.pro-9.co.uk/ - EMC Engines www.emcengines.com/ is now ready to be fitted Reliable race spec engine, plus competition clutch are going in next week. So car should be ready in plenty of time for the next bruntingthorpe run with oodles of power It's off to then on sunday for work to commence and will be away for the week - aaarrggghhhh a week to wait. >>> Edited by dontlift on Thursday 15th May 08:54
