I'm just after a little bit more in the way of sound, so thinking of replacing my standard panel air filter, with a K&N panel filter.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm just after a little bit more in the way of sound, so thinking of replacing my standard panel air filter, with a K&N panel filter. Does anyone know of any existing issues, good or bad with this simple mod? I dont want to go down the alternative intake system, or cat bypass just now, but might later. Has anyone done this mod and noticed any difference in the sound? All comments welcome

PROS: You will get better airflow and slightly louder induction sound (I won't describe it as a roar, you need to delete the Helmholtz resonator if you want that). CONS: Oil can foul the MAF and upset your engine management (although a quick wash with IPA will sort you out the first few times, it can accelerate the demise of the MAF. To avoid this, make sure you wick the excess oil out of the panel by wrapping in kitchen towel or newspaper for 24 hours prior to use. I have had a K&N panel for two years now with no ill effect. http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=53873

POST 3Original post

The K and N panel filter works fine and gives out a little bit of a roar No issues with the maff fouling if the filter is cleaned and oiled correctly. IE Oil the wrong side and the maff gets plastered. Good cheap mod.

Thanks for the info - GT4 you seem to be the authority on this subject. I have my K&N panel wrapped in kitchen paper as I type this.
