Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

One place that spilled oil from the filter collects - and is hard to see (let alone clean) is on top of the aluminium shield (in the first pic) and the cross brace just behind and below the filter.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I took my ‘09 Cayman to a local Porsche shop to have the oil changed. I even had an opportunity to check out the undercarriage and took pictures. When the tech came back from a test drive it was spewing oil on the ground. Turns out the o-ring on the filter housing got twisted, which caused the leak. They cleaned it up and refilled the oil but I don’t know how low the oil level got while it was running or where the oil got to when it pumped (sprayed?) out. Is there anything I should look or listen for? It ran and sounded fine on the drive home.

POST 2Original post

Check that you don't smell any burning oil. Did they power wash the undercarriage ? You could get it put up on a lift again and visual see what it looks like. It's easy to mess up the O-ring I've done it myself just this spring but it found the leak right away before I moved the car anywhere. I start the car and quickly check to see if anything is leaking before going anywhere. I doubt you lost enough oil for it to be a problem.

POST 3Original post

I agree, the engine holds about 2 gallons of oil. The test drive couldn't of dumped more than a few quarts. That's a lot of oil and will make a mess, but a short drive with a low oil level isn't going to hurt anything. Plus, there's a low-oil warning. Unless the guy test-drove it on a track, I wouldn't sweat it. One place that spilled oil from the filter collects - and is hard to see (let alone clean) is on top of the aluminium shield (in the first pic) and the cross brace just behind and below the filter. I routinely spill oil in the cartridge when lowering it. I often need to flush that area with simple green and wipe it down as best as I can. If you notice some oil on the floor, you could make them remove the aluminum shield and clean it better.
