Hi Guys~
Have you scan your Cayman/Boxster to resolve a problem in a dealer shop?
How much does it cost for scanning?
My Boxster 2005(M/T) has a strange RPM problem now so I cleaned throttle, AFS and so on but no improvement. I also changed spark plug and oil. I am thinking on going to a Porsche dealer shop and then scan or check. I just want to know approximate cost for it.
Anyway, RPM is going up to 1500 during idle. Sometimes, stay around 900. Usually, right after stop in red sign it goes up to 1500. The weird thing is that it looks Ok during driving my car. Somebody's help will be appreciated!
(sorry for my poor english, not my mother language)
Is the check engine light on?
Roughly I'd say the cost would be one half hour of labor. In my area that would $75 (dealer's labor cost is $150/hour).
However, I have an OBD2 scan tool (made by Actron) and data logger (bought it years ago) and even though it cost me around $250 then it has paid for itself many times over.
BTW, a hunting idle like that can be a sign the AOS is going bad. Was the TB dirty with oil? Was there oil immeidately behind the TB where a hose from the AOS connects? If there's oil there, if it is wet with oil, AOS likely failing.
With the engine idling can you unscrew and remove the oil filler tube cap? If not if you can't or it is very hard, it can be an AOS.
Sincerely,
Rockster.
Thank you very much for your answer!
No check engine light yet.
Yes. It is wet with oil there. I haven't thought AOS is going bad. Let me check it with your way and share the result.
And one more question.
Is it Okay if I block the path between AOS and Throttle valve unit? I guess it just block the oil from AOS to Throttle so could be a solution until change to new one.
No. Do not block the hose/hose connection. The engine crankcase will suffer from an overpressure condition and the engine seals/and some gaskets will seep oil.
If the AOS proves to be bad replace it clean the throttle body and if you can do it without getting anything in the intake wipe out the intake as far in as you can reach.
Or better yet, clean the TB and bolt everything up and drive the car normally. Get the car hot some and eventually any oil that was inside the intake will make its way through the engine.
Sincerely,
Rockster.
