I have received the following DME data from the dealership:
Range 1: 999 129.6h
Range 2: 115 128.2h
Range 3: 9 18.1h
Range 4: -- --
Operating hours counter 139.2
Miles: 4200
I did a search on this. But I still don't know how to calculate Time at Over Rev. Can anybody help?
Thanks
By my calculations, total time spent over redline is about 3 seconds; about 2.7 seconds in Range 1, about .3 of a second in Range 2, and about .02 of a second in Range 3.
I've posted my calculations procedure for this several times here, but no one has called me out on it yet. Maybe this time. Otherwise, you can just check my math.
There are 3 ignitions for each revolution of the engine (one half of the 6 cylinders fire each revolution). To calculate time in Range 1, I use the Range 1 midpoint of 7400 rpm, which is 123 revs per sec (rps). 123 rps X 3 ignitions = 369 ignitions per second. 999 Range 1 ignitions divided by 369 igns per sec yields about 2.7 seconds in Range 1.
Doing the same for the 115 ignitions in Range 2 (using the Range 2 midpoint of 7600 rpm), I got about .3 seconds in Range 2. Repeating that for the 9 ignitions in Range 3 (midpoint = 7800 rpm), I got about .02 of a second. Thus, combined time over redline was estimated to be about 3 seconds.
If you see any problem with my calculations, let me know. Math was my most worstest subject.
Jim,
Also worth noting that these numbers are cumulative so it didn't have to happen all at the same time. I don't see anything out of the ordinary here, someone just banged the rev limiter, you can easily get these kinds of readings from that alone. I believe your math is a good approximation.
that's great! thanks guys
:thanks:
Ken: I agree.
From the three different operating hours given, it appears that there were at least 3 "trips" past redline. There could have been more, but, if so, that record has been replaced by the more recent records. The very brief Range 3 hit had to go up and down through Ranges 1 and 2 to get to Range 3, but the Range 1 and 2 records of that hit have been replaced by more recent Range 1 and 2 records.
For sticklers to the advised break-in period, the Range 3 hit apparently occurred before the end of that period. Otherwise, these data don't show anything to be concerned about.
