Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Cosmoline is commonly used on metal parts while in inventory storage to prevent corrosion.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I decided to check out my engine on my Spyder and upon inspection I notice oil all over the heat exchanger. Is this normal??? Sorry for the newb question.
Thanks in advance,
D.
In the first picture on the left side it appears a stud of some kind is present in a hole! Should this be a bolt like the other three that are there! If you look closely you can even see a ring present in the oil where a washer once was seated! Might have that checked! Oil should never be present on any engine parts ever, only in the crankcase, unless the car is old and leaking!
Oil, cosmoline, whatever. It looks too purposeful and contained to be a random leak (one part is essentially covered in it, and other parts have NO traces). Oil 'leaks' typically are not that selective.
If it's oil it looks like it was probably oil coated on purpose.
Oil Cooler needs to be replaced! It has failed.
My dealer has overnighted one from Germany, but due to the weekend I won't see it until next week. So I get to keep my 2011 Cayman loaner over the weekend. I'm quite shocked how different it feels from the Spyder. The clutch and shifter travel is huge. Power is noticeably quite different. I miss the PSE sound too! Ride is quite different obviously. Definitely more a lux feel versus sporty Spyder.
I just got my Spyder back from the dealer. They (Sunset Imports) were nice enough to deliver the car to my house. On Monday I had an unexpected surgery (removed my gall bladder) preventing me to pick it up.
Here was the outcome:
Replaced-
-Oil Heat Exchanger
-Heat Exchanger Gasket
-Rubber Sleeve
-Round Head Screws
-Sealing
-Antifreeze (3.7l)
Cleaned The engine and replaced the above. Then performed fuel system bleed.
I'm so glad I decided to check out the engine when I did!
I'll be doing so every so often just in case.
Thanks bxstr. Trying to rest, but it's tough staying home doing nothing. Luckily I managed to pick up an IPad 2 last Friday to keep me occupied.
I missed that one.
From the picture I would have sworn that it was Cosmoline.
A big thumbs up to the dealer for taking the steps to get you a new cooler quickly.
Now, get well so that you can drive that beautiful car!!
