Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

Today is the first time I removed the engine cover. I wanted to replace the engine air filter myself since I recall paying an excessive amount of labor for it the last time. Found a great write-up in the Articles section on how to access my engine as well as how to remove/install a new air filter. The entire process took at most 1 hour and some of that time was my taking a look around since I’ve never had the chance previously (I’ve had the car for 2 years now but have a great mechanic I’ve taken it to for the 20k and 30k maintenance). My first observation was how dusty everything was. But that makes sense since I drive down a gravel road every day. But I also noticed a section of hose with a small amount of oil residue at the connection points. There was also some build-up on a cap directly in front of this hose. I have no idea what these parts are or if the oily residue is normal. I’ll be taking the car in for the 40k service in a few weeks so any advice would be appreciated. http://www.planet-9.com/gallery/files/1/7/4/7/8/img00014-20110319-1348.jpg

I'd bet that's power steering fluid. That reservoir behind the pipe is for ps fluid. I could only guess why fluid is all over that pipe. I'd check the fluid level if you can, and make sure that cap is properly secured and not damaged.
