Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi there, I have experienced twice where I am going at a fairly high speed (~70mph) the engine cuts and all of the warning lights come on. It has only happened twice and both times I was able to press in the clutch and get the car turned back on and keep going. One time was when i was accelerating very quickly, and the other time was while just cruising along down the highway not accelerating much at all. Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, what did it end up being? I have noticed that my ignition tumbler is getting a little more stiff, so I wonder if it's something to do with that? Could it be the MAF needs cleaning? I just got back from a 500-mile round trip and had no problems at all even though I was cruising around 80-85mph most of the way. Thanks for anyone who can offer help. Swaff

POST 2Original post

Reads like an ignition switch (or electrical) problem, though there are other explanations: Intermittent fuel pump operation, crankshaft position sensor to name two. Do you perchance have a heavy key ring attached to the Porsche key you use? With the engine idling with the car on your driveway wiggle the key in the switch. Or not try the above. If the switch is indeed the cause I'm concerned your wiggling the key in the switch could possibly trigger the engine starter with possibly disastrous results.

I do have a heavier ring on my keys. I'll try taking some off until I can get it to a shop. I already tried installing a new Audi switch, and that did not make the key turn more smooth. Pretty sure the ignition issue is from the tumbler and not the cheap $10 switch.
