Hi all,
Sorry for such a daft post but I'm abroad at the mo and just as I was dropping the car off at the long term car park the oil light came on in the dash. I then remembered I was reading the manual in bed the other night (uber sad...) and left it at home; can anyone give me the spec of the oil I need to get from the first garage I find when I get back to the uk next week for a 2010 base Cayman gen 2?
Will it even be possible to get this kind of oil in a filling station?
Thanks and sorry for such a basic question
Any help re spec and brand names etc most appreciated
Mobil 1 0-40 (European Blend).
0W-40 is preferred. Mobil 1 seems to be the most popular manufacturer. Castrol has the Edge Sport 0W-40. This weight may not be available at all filling stations. I have better results at auto parts stores. But in a pinch you can probably use 5W-40 or 5W-30 or 0W-30 depending on how much is needed.
Thanks for the info chaps
The oil light has never come on before and the car is only 6 months old so I'm hoping it just needs half a litre ish... I'm assuming it's a fully synthetic oil I need?
As I land on Sunday and have a long drive I'm going to be limited to filling station fare but you've suggested lots of options so it should be Coolio
My logic here is any oil (within reason) is better than low oil...
Thanks again
The computer display should tell you how low you are.
The original factory fill is Mobil 1 0W-40, there should be a sticker inside the oil coolant cover. It is fully synthetic.
As mentioned above, that should be Mobil 1
0
W-40.
Evidently they are shipped a little low on oil. When I picked up my new '10 base, the dealer made a point to tell me to buy a quart, check it frequently, and add if necessary. Sure enough, at about 700 miles I had to add 12 ounces to get it up to the full mark. I was driving it very easy during break in as instructed. Now, it is at 7,500 miles and has not used any since. I did change oil at 4,600 miles, so it went 3,900 and I now have another 2,900 miles with no apparent consumption.
Mobil 1, 0W-40, synthetic.
Thank for all the help chaps
No where else could you post a question and get such specific and helpful answers so quickly...
I love this forum!!
Also remember that the Gen II dfi engines use a lot of oil.
