Suggestion

You'd need it plugged into a porsche tester to check which one was faulty - it wouldn't be sending an output back to the 'brain' to adjust the fuel mixture, and would show a flat line on it's graph, rather than a 'zig-zag' graph for the sensors that are working, but hopefully they'll all be OK.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi guys, have the exhaust out of the car at a mechanics. 3 of the 4 sensors are refusing to budge. The guys say they could be heated but that has risks for the sensors functioning and further the threads could be ruined. Has anyone any advice as to how best to proceed and how much replacement are if they get ruined in the process? Quick advice if possible as exhaust is out of car. Car is an 01 turbo by the way.

POST 2Original post

The only possible way is to try heating them now they're out - I had this problem when trying to replace a sensor, and the guy at the garage said the engine should be warmed up before trying to remove the sensor. I'd try warming the exhaust, as this would warm the sensor anyway during normal use. New sensors are about £100 each if you can't get them out - you'll have to try unscrewing them, wreck the thread, then snap them off, and tap out the holes, and as I recall, it's an awkward sized thread that I struggled to find - ended up loaning one from a back-street garage. You didn't mention why you want the sensors off the exhaust? Anyway, good luck :thumb:

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Cheers. I was swapping the exhaust for one of Gert's modified exhausts so swapping over. the guys used heat to get them all out and only stripped one. Have it ordered for delivery in the morning for £78.50 plus VAT. Hopefully no CELs tomorrow!

POST 4Original post

Not too bad then if just one needed replaced - you'll notice straight away if any of the others aren't working, as your idling will be really rough.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Cheers. Hoping all will be well and no CELs.
