I looked at some old threads and there is nothing new since 2009, so yes, I used darn search :taunt:
Is there anything besides SpeedTactics bracket + 2.5lb halon extinguisher combo I can find reasonably priced somewhere?
Seems like their combo is the only one not hitting $300 mark with shipping. Any special off-season deals out there?
Try rennline.com. They have bracket and fire extinguisher combos for about $250. I don't know how much shipping is, but their brackets are first rate.
Another well known manufacturer is Brey-Krause

is your club requiring mounted fire extinguisher to pass tech now?
NCR and NER share same DE rules and both require 2.5lb extinguisher to participate in DE. You get a pass on your 1st novice event, but after that you have to have it.
Rennline has a special price on their mount/extinguisher combos:
Fire Extinguisher and Mount Package-Rennline, Inc.
Priced from $181 with a dry chem extinguisher to $245 with a halon extinguisher. No financial interest, just a satisfied customer. See install article here:

By the way, I have both a used SpeedTactics and Mantis Sport mount that I would be willing to sell - PM me if interested.
I wonder if I should just get
this
extinguisher from Ebay, as long as they are freshly charged with Halon.
There are couple options for a bracket, including possibly making one out of a sheet of aluminum.
No kidding?
Proof indeed that the volunteers that run the DE's for the schools may be well-intentioned but are not necessarily well-informed.

Exactly right. There is far more danger from a fire extinguisher coming out of the mount and causing a driver to lose control of his car than the vehicle catching on fire.
I've been instructing since 1996 and seen zero cars with engine fires. None. Nada. Couple of times tall grass can burn a little after a spin-out and the hot cat makes the weeds smolder, but that's been it.
And what student is going to have the presence of mind to spend time trying to get a fire extinguisher out of a well-secured mount if his car is in flames? Makes no sense - you get out of the car.
On the east coast, we've always told our students that *IF* your car were to catch on fire (most unlikely), then drive to the nearest corner worker and get out of the car.
On -board fire control systems make sense in race cars, hit a button and the nozzles douse the engine compartment, but goofin' around with an bracketed fire extinguisher in the cockpit really is just silly.
