Are there any procedures on replacing the water pump? I couldn't find anything in the articles sections. The dealer wants $1100+, which seems like a lot (and I don't think that includes the thermostat). I used to work on cars a lot when I was younger, so I could probably handle it. I only have basic tools nowadays though as I got rid of jacks, jack stands, etc., but I suppose I can borrow those.
Or, you can go to a local Porsche mechanic, with a good reputation and ,probably, have it done for 1/2 that much.
Cheers.
Yeah, that is a good idea. Have not had to do anything other than regular maintenance up until now. RUF is nearby, but they may be priced similarly.
Its very easy to do. I replaced mine on the lift at my buddy's shop. You could do it with some jackstands but that will just cause you to do a lot more snaking around with your arm. Also keep in mine that you'll have to remove part of the undertray.
Follow the article for installing the underdrive pulley as you should be replacing your main belt at the same time. As for the pump itself, I believe there were 5 or 6 bolts to remove and a hose then you can remove it by squeezing it through between the block and a hose. 3 of the bolts are easily accessed through the firewall and the other 3 from the bottom. I think there are 2 different sized bolts so keep track of that
This forum is full of good info. This is great. Evrybody, pat your selves on the back.
You guys are great
This time, I was lucky though. I asked the dealer if they could give me some kind of discount and they called Porsche and were able to give me a big break since it is less than a year out of warranty and under 20k. Engine sounds great and they did a great job on a scuff I had on the leather. Car looks and rides almost new again.
And I was actually looking forward to getting my hands dirty. I haven't done that since my 300ZX days and used to have a lot of fun (though frustrating) times modding it.
