Has anyone installed the B&M short-shifter into their 996? I've read that the B&M is the best compared to what's out there and it's the same unit used in the new GT2.

I had the "other" short shift kit on my 996...the guy who installed it did a horrible job-it did work, but had enough issues(due to poor install) to return to manufacturer...it is an improvement from stock, but the B&M, which is now in my car, is awesome...tight/short/precise...the other kit uses stock shifter & upgrades some of the pieces, whereas the b&m is an entire unit--do not hesitate!

I have the B&M shifter installed now and I like it, very tight. I'm going to test drive it some more before the console goes back on and I might drive by the dealer to have them check my cable lengh adjustment first. Not a bad installation, B&M could have given a little more detail on removing the shift **** (pull hard), a little more on removing the cable clips and a lesson on cable lenght adjustment. They do not talk about the allen bolt and the tightning nut that tightens the play at the bushings(they will get a call on Monday). Also it is a little scarry on cutting the old bushings to get the old shifter lever out. Once you cut the bushing clips you will spend $135.00 to go back to the OEM setup, since Porsche does not sell the bushing clips seperate. I would say that the install was a success.
