I just got a 2010 Cayman S with PCM 3.0 and the Bluetooth interface. I have access to two iPhone 5's and a Droid Charge.
All three phones pair easily with the PCM and can make/receive calls.
None of them seem to be able to transfer their contacts.
I have searched around a bunch and do see some older threads about people having to enter their contacts one at a time and other horror stories, but I dont find very much current information particularly for the iPhone 5. I see lots of videos showing how easy it is to connect the phones via bluetooth and that the contacts just transfer automatically, so I'm hoping there is either something I'm doing wrong or something that my dealer can help/update to get it to work.
These are the options the car has:
870 - Universal Audio Interface
P23 - PCM 3.0 w/ Extended Navigation
619 - Bluetooth Interface for Mobile
680 - Bose High End Sound Package
After connecting any of the three phones the PCM does display text saying that it is transferring contacts, but nothing seems to really come through. They all have greyed out Phonebook entries on their phone page. Going into the phone/options/phonebook settings, I can not select either of the two presented options for Phonebook memory: "SIM card" or "Telephone" - neither will let me check them.
If I go into the Transfer Phonebook option and tell it to replace the contacts, the text tells me to initiate the transfer on the phone and actually disconnects the bluetooth link - neither the iPhones nor the Droid seem to have features I can find to initiate the transfer of contacts at that point.
I've seen conflicting threads about the "hands free" profile vs the "SIM access" profile. The fact that the phones do connect and work to make/receive calls makes me think they must be using the hands free profile - but I'm not really sure. Nor is it clear to me if thats something I can change or if it must be done by a technician. The info screen for the phones says "Profile Cell phone connected."
When I go into the info options and view the version it just says V - which other posts tell me means that its running the very first version. Should I be able to get my dealer to update it to a newer version (v1.4?) - and is that something they would reasonably do for free?
Can anyone help me identify what I need to do to get my phones to transfer their contacts and populate the phonebook on the PCM?
I paid a visit to my dealer and they are willing to do the software update, but it will have to be done by appointment next week. We did try their phone and it behaved the same as mine.
The service manager started to roll his eyes at the notion that a 2010 car should resonably be expected to work with a 2012 phone...
Does anyone have experience or know for sure if the 2010 PCM 3.0 system should transfer the phone book from a modern iPhone or Android phone?
My Jan'11 Spyder with pcm3 works fine with iPhone 4 and 5.
Yes, it should do it automatically. I don't recall fiddling with any settings with PCM3.0, it just downloaded all my contacts automatically the first time I paired the phone to PCM3.0 via bluetooth. I also have version "V" on my PCM3.0, never got around to updating it.
I used to have a Samsung Galaxy S, just recently got a new LG Nexus 4 this month and both synced up the contacts to PCM3.0 with no issues. I can use PCM to select the contact and it makes the call fine. (FYI - my contacts are stored in the cloud via gmail address book, and not locally on the phone or sim card, don't know if that makes a difference in syncing to PCM3.0. In theory it shouldn't matter)
Thanks for the replies!
My car is going in for service next Wednesday to get the Sport Chrono stuff installed (sport/sport+ buttons and software - but no dash clock). Thats when the service guys are going see what they can do about getting the phonebook to transfer.
From what I've seen on the forums and stuff, my hunch is that its trying to use the SIM Access Profile and my iPhone and Droid dont support that. It sounded like the older PCM systems had an explicit toggle to go between "Handsfree Profile" and "SIM Access Profile" - but the literature for PCM 3.0 makes it sound like its supposed to detect and use the appropriate one.
Anyway, we'll see... At the end of the day I dont NEED the phonebook on the PCM but it would be nice to have it working the way it seems like it should.
All is well!
The dealer updated the software in my PCM system to 1.47 and now my iPhone and Android phone transfer their phonebooks just fine.
(New member here. I find a lot of useful information here. I was a lurker for the past 3 months when researching about purchasing a Porsche. And now I'm a new owner.)
I'm currently having a problem and this is the only thread I can find that is close to my problem (hence reviving an old thread).
I've just purchased a CPO 2010 base 987.2. It has PCM 3.0 that originally came with v. 1.44 but I just got back from the dealer today to upgrade to v. 1.47 hoping it would solve my problem. It did not.
My problem is that my phonebook in the PCM list my contacts by Last name, first! While my iphone4 (verizon/CDMA) I have it sorted and displayed as First name, first.
Does anyone have any insight on this?
My iPhone 4S (Verizon) has the first names showing first but it is the last name that actually is how the names are listed. For example Dan Laa, Sara Lax would list both in the "L" section and would list Dan Laa in this fashion first and then Sara Lax. When I look at how the phonebook is in on my screen, 2011 PCM 3.0, it lists them by last name first so it would be Laa, Dan and then Lax, Sara. So mine does the same if I am understanding what you are asking. However, I have not had any problems in using it. For example I scroll down till I get the box with the large letter and watch it go by until in this case I get to "L" and then I touch in the L square and it gives me a list of last names starting with L, in this example, starting with Laa, Dan and the Lax, Sara etc. Once I see the last name I want I press on it and make the call. If I have two number listed the name will come up on another screen with both numbers and again I just press on the number I want.
Hope this helps.

Thank you for your post, the last name does show up first and it corresponds to the appropriate letter of that last name as you have described. However, it does not display the "comma" indicating that it is last name first (not like that matters to me).
But, the problem is that I do not remember or memorize people's last name, even though I have it in my address book (plus it is difficult when I have many phonebook entries of different people with the same last name). Hence, that's why I have it sorted and displayed first name, first, on my iPhone contacts. My preference is to have first name, first, displayed on the PCM phonebook as well. I just don't understand why the PCM will reverse it differently than what I have set on my iPhone phonebook or not give a configuration option to sort it differently. I read elsewhere in the forum (or other porsche related forums) that other people who are using other phones can sort by first name, first...I think at least on Android? I guess I'll just have to deal with the last name, first then. Thank you again for your assistance!
