You probably are right in that the switch is bad as I am sure you would have noticed other items that no longer work, but it is always worth checking the simpler solutions.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I recently purchased the new front LED light spars for my ' 06 Cayman S . While I was waiting for the spars to arrive, I figured it'd be a good time to replace all my interior lights with LEDs. While replacing the glovebox bulb, I shorted the metal casing on the outside of the assembly to the internal metal strips -- doh. There was a small spark, and now my glovebox light switch no longer works. Also, I get a horn "chirp" when I lock the car. (The chirp you'd normally hear if the front or rear trunk lids aren't fully closed when you lock the car). I was wondering if anyone knew: 1) if I could have destroyed anything else besides the switch, 2) the part number/price of the switch, 3) any tips on performing the install -- I found an article on how to remove the glove box, but none indicating where the switch is or what it looks like.

POST 2Original post

Before assuming the switch is toasted, have you checked the fuses? You probably are right in that the switch is bad as I am sure you would have noticed other items that no longer work, but it is always worth checking the simpler solutions. I looked but I could not find a part number for the switch itself in the parts catalog I have. Hopefully someone else can be of more use.

POST 3Original post

did you solve this issue ? I am having a similar problem and cant find the fuse to check before deciding to replace the switch

POST 4Original post

I have the same problem. I installed the leds and the glove box light stop working.....even if I replace the lamp with the original one.

POST 5Original post

Same here, tried installing LED and now it's dead.

POST 6Original post

Hi, does anyone find a solution? Is there a fuse to change? is it necessary to replace all the wire in the glove box? thanks

POST 7Original post

I recall that the horn will chirp if trunk lids or the glove box is open. I would think that the switch is bad and not sending the correct signal telling the car its shut.
