Hello all! I want to thank everyone for all of your post. They helped me make my decision on the car I bought this week. I purchased a 2008 , certified, cayman and I love the car. I have a specific question? The car has the Bose radio system. In the glove box , there is an iPod cable wire, jack used to link a phone etc into the radio. I have been trying to get it working . The Porsche dealer tried several things, 2x pressing the cd button etc. , but we could not get it work. Also in the glove box is a switch, this switch seems to be an antenna booster. Can anyone give me an idea how to access the system, using the cord , to play music off my iPhone? I think that is what the cable is for? I have most of my music on my phone . Thanks !! That should be iPod not iPad.
I'm sorry that should've been a iPod cable
It's aftermarket, maybe a self-done thing. What makes it problematic is the fiber optic system that year car combined with the Bose system. My guess is it's the Gateway system by Denison. I have the same car with the Bose system and gave up on a jack for MP3 players. I went with a Sat radio and a very good FM modulator. The modulator I bought has a place to plug in an SD card with all my music. I know this doesn't help but there are a few people here who have installed that system and may be able to help. Don't be surprised though if A, it doesn't work well or B, it doesn't work at all because it was never properly installed. A good start would be to read about the Denison Gateway system for a 2008 with the fiber optic Bose system.
Mharris....what sat radio and modulator did you use for your set up?
It was the Soundfly one with bluetooth. It works extremely well. The Sat radio is the Sirius car one.
I got it working yesterday by flipping the switch in the glove box and scanning the fm channels. It stopped on 89.1 and plays, but it has some distortion. I thought I would use it more, but I find myself riding with the radio off, the engine noise is just too sexy!! Thanks for the help.
Are you getting distortion or static? It seems you are running through an FM modulator so you are bound to have static. But if it is distortion, try turning the volume down on the ipod. I've noticed sometimes when i plug my iphone in via the connector (not the headphone jack), the output volume switches to full output, assuming you will control volume with the device it is playing through. But in one vehicle it was heavily distorted. I turned the volume down about 30% and all was well.
