Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I know -- Loren's site has the info for the DIY's, and I downloaded the info. Just curious if you guys know who has the best deal on Mobil-1 (either online or auto supply house). Also, get the filter from the dealer or same place as the oil?? Thinking of trying to tackle that puppy this weekend... Thanks, Tim

POST 2Original post

Year: 2006 Make: Porsche Model: 911 Price: $59000 Mileage: 29590 Color: Guards Red Private or Dealer Listing: Private Listing Location (State): PA Transmission: Manual Drivetrain: Rear Wheel Drive I am probably going to very much regret this but here I am selling my 2006 Carrera S. This is my second, darn near identical, Guards red 06 Carrera S with the aero kit. Having sold my last one in 2011 to a Rennlister, I immediately missed the car and regretted the decision. After a couple years I found this perfect match and it has been an amazing few years of ownership. The little one (soon to be little one’s) however is now my main focus and reluctantly I’m seldom left with time to enjoy the car. Time to sit on the sidelines for a few years until they can enjoy cars again with me. Life story out of the way, here are the specs to this perfect example. Guards Red, 29,xxx miles. VIN: WP0AB29946S743401 Two keys, all manuals, all records/receipts from my ownership. Factory Options: ($108,075 MSRP) -Factory Aerokit -Black full leather -Porsche Sports Exhaust -19” Carrera Sport Wheel (with 1k mile Super Sports) -Adaptive Sport Seats -Heated seats -Guards red seat belts -Sport Chrono Plus -Porsche Crests in headrest -Instrument dials Guards Red -Bose Sound Package -Colored Crest wheel caps -3 Spoke leather multifunction wheel -Metal door sill with model insignia -Aluminum look package switch panel -Aluminum handbrake -Self Dimming mirrors Maintenance performed 2/17/13 (22,200 miles) Oil/filter change, air and pollen filters changed. 6/21/13 (23,600 miles) EXPEL Ultimate clear paint protection installed 9/14/13 (24,550 miles) Spark plugs and serpentine belt 10/6/13 (24,920 miles) New OEM water pump 11/2/13 (25,530 miles) Front brake rotors 11/9/13 (25,560 miles) Oil and filter change, new battery 8/31/14 (27,150 miles) Oil and filter change 5/3/15 (28,630 miles) Oil and filter change XPEL Ultimate paint protection on full hood/ bumper/ front fenders. I have spent the last year or so making this the perfect weekend back road car. A perfect blend of GT3/track parts to create simply sublime handling. I have never daily driven the car so it has solely been a pleasure vehicle. Sunny weekends, no rain, hibernating from Nov-March under cover and on tender unless we get a warm patch, always hand washed/waxed, etc. Treated with meticulous care and maintenance and it shows. I have perfect Blackstone Oil analysis to accompany every change, and all of the maintenance other than routine was simply preventative. The water pump for instance looked new when removed and replaced. I am the 4th owner and clean Carfax which I can gladly email if needed. The paint is like glass and the interior immaculate. Honestly a perfect car. The car will be sold in stock form unless the buyer has interest in retaining any of the parts on the car. Otherwise they will be removed and listed here in the classifieds after the sale. List of additional parts on the car include: GT3 RS steering wheel, Dectane LED’s, X51 manifolds, Carbon interior trim pieces, BBS CH-R wheels, Ohlins Road and track suspension, GT3 front control arms, lower dash alcantara panels, 350mm Turbo rotors, Mantis Sport oil pan, Tarett caliper studs, apex wheel studs, GT3 rear sway bar, SS engine mounts, RSS dog bones, Adjustable rear toe link, Rennline LCA monoball bushings. Asking $59,000 in stock form. Located in Lansdale, PA. Happy to email additional photos of anything you'd like. Email is [email removed] for any interest or questions. Title in hand ready to go. Mileage may increase slightly because the weather this time of year is exceedingly pleasant.

POST 3Original post

You can get Mobil 1 0W-40 for $4.99 at Kragen, and they often have $1 off coupons. Or you could go to Park Place Porsche--they usually have a good price on their website.

POST 5Original post

I asked this very question over on rennlist and basically the 4.99 was the best at Kragen's/Checker. Some peope in the midwest reported getting a 5 qt jug for $20 ($4/qt) at WalMart. No such luck here. I buy it for the 4.99 at Checker and they will occasionally have the $1 off (limit 6) in their calendars.

POST 6Original post

Will likely be returning to stock form in the next week or so. Reasonable offers accepted in the interim for stock, as is, or anywhere in between.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the info guys... Tim

POST 8Original post

Bought the filters from Sunset Porsche and the oil from Pep Boys. Sunset was a lot cheaper than my local dealer and Pep Boys was $5/qt.

POST 9Original post

One of the guys mentioned on the rennlist boards that WalMart has pretty good prices. He quoted something like $4- average per qrt. -Eli

POST 10Original post

Eli, The $4 avg was for the 5 qt jug at $20. Their single qt price is about 4.80......not worth the $0.19 discont to get me into that place.

POST 11Original post

drive $80,000 cars and worry about $1.00 off or .50 cents off per quart of oil.... spend the extra, jeeez, and have the dealer work on these babies.

POST 12Original post

Quote: I've always bought mine here at work so I'm really only trying to jump in on the Q&A.... Yes at times I also wonder why the 996 drivers worries about savings so much. Could be that some over spent, could be force of habit or could be that some have always been that way..... Either way, I'm just trying to help out. BTW: I hate the "steeler" working on small things such as an oil change, they don't clean and detail like I do. . . . Changing your oil is part of the joy! -Eli

POST 13Original post

easy there yellowbmr....just as Eli said, working on the car doing stuff like the oil change is part of the enjoyment of owning a P-Car. And it has nothing to do with spending the extra. That is just an assinine response. Did you pay sticker. You sound like the ***** salesman when my uncle posed the question "what kinda gas mileage does this 911 get" and his response was "you shouldn't have to ask that question if you can afford one of these". Nothing wrong with shopping for the best price. How in the world do you think wealth is made? Careless spending? Come on, you really didn't mean what you said did you?

POST 14Original post

Can't imagine owning performance cars and not doing as much of the work myself as possible. For me that's a major part of the enjoyment. -Glen

POST 15Original post

Dr. T and Dell, I second that notion. I do not want to pay my dealer $200 for an oil change - call me cheap, but to me thats throwing money away. BTW, Meijer's is the place to go - when the oil is on sale - buy in bulk. I have also seen it on sale at Sams Club now and then.

POST 16Original post

and then blowing up the engine and end up paying more to fix it. it's happened in the beamer world.

POST 17Original post

Quote: Well, the first time you do an oil change on your own car, the rewards of knowing you did it yourself are pretty cool and often times have nothing to do with the fact that you are saving $100 or so. I love crawling under my car, it's part of the ownership experience. Don't be afraid. That is the nice thing about this community, we can support ourselves with information so we don't have to worry about doing it wrong. Oil change in a Pcar is a piece of cake.

POST 18Original post

Robyn, excellent point. You did forget the other type of support we get here in the P-Car community.......MODS!!! Quite addictive at that. Never a shortage of mod advice, help with installs, not to mention several people will let you check theirs out (if you are in the area) to help you decide by checking it out in person before you buy.

POST 19Original post

Just to stir things up, but only suckers and wussies pay someone to change their oil. And since they are suckers and wussies, it therefore only fitting that they pay $9 a qt of oil, and $300 for someone to change it. The rest of us would rather spend our money on something worthwhile.

POST 21Original post

ROFL (Following spoken with New Jersey or Brooklyn accent) "Yeah, you just go have someone do it for you, because you are sooooo important that you can't be bothered with getting your hands dirty. After all you DO drive an $80,000 car. Yeah, you just go ahead, Girlie Man......"
