Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was about 15 miles from home yesterday when my AOS failed. Managed to limp on home. Confirmed failure by disconnecting the hose to the intake and blocking it off. Performance returned and smoke disappeared. However, while burning off the remaining oil in the exhaust, I notice a small puddle of oil under the car. Maybe about 1/2 cup. Is this normal with an AOS failure? So I am going to order a new AOS. I've read the DIY's about replacing it. I don't have the hose clamp pliers for the bottom hose. Would it be better to buy the pliers or just cut the hose and buy a new one? Anything else I should buy? Thanks!

POST 2Original post

Let me be the first (probably of many) that will tell you that it was very foolish to continue driving with a blown AOS. Consider yourself lucky that you still have six un-bent connecting rods. Remember - the most expensive tow is still usually less than the cheapest replacement engine. Buy the pliers. You'll need them again after driving home with a cracked coolant tank one day.

POST 3Original post

Buy the pliers and cut the bottom hose. My new AOS came with a new one. http://986forum.com/forums/diy-project-guides/50363-aos-replacement-tips.html

I just edited the tips to make sure the screw clamp is stainless, and if possible with rounded edges...
