Product Name: Scosche passPORT
Description:
- Charging adapter for the iPod nano (Gen 4), iPod touch (Gen 2) and iPhone 3G
- Allows car integration accessories that do not support charging to work with the iPhone 3G and recently released iPod models
- Pass through port allows for easy plug-and-play installation
This is supposed to work to eliminate the incompatibility of Fire wire charging on the New 3g Iphone with older ipod car integration systems like the Alpine Ex-10 and other aftermarket head units/iPod integration solutions.
I hope it works!

Eric sells a cable for the Dension which does charge the 3g iphone.
Just an FYI..
It works. The message that says "this accessory is not made to work with iPhone 3G" still pops up on the iPhone screen, but it goes out by itself and the connection charges the phone..
Just in case anyone was interested.

My understanding is that the quick charge through a car charger was not recommended for the new iPhone as it reduces the battery life over time. Does this fix eliminate this problem?
I dont know. I checked the documentation that came with the adapter and it doesn't say anything like that. I didnt know that the battery on the iphone was any different than the battery and any other iPod. Thanks for the heads-up. I'll check into it.

It's good to know that I am not the only facing this problem. Well yesterday I took my car after installing the interface (that cost me $1200) and I was disappointed to find it doesn't charge my iPod, my PCM has no control on the iPod and I have to turn the iPod on and off as I get or leave the car !
May I ask how to install this Scosche passPORT? Does it come between the iPod and the dealer's installed interface?
your car shouldnt do a quick charge anyway.
Anyway, I have this device and it does work in that it charges the iPhone, however it does not fix other issues. There are several different compatibility issues depending on when your ipod device was built and how they actually wired it. From what I got in some research is that some manufactures were basically lazy and didn't wire there devices completely correctly because it saved money. For the most part, if the phone connection doesnt even work now it wont work afterwards - but it probably will charge. and when you look at the write up, thats basically all they claim anyway.
the maker of my particular ipod connection said I had to buy a whole new device which I wont do so I'm still not happy.
*Bump*
Make sure that you have the right cable if you are using a Dension.
