After some checking I learned that By Design will install the Techart manufactured aluminum faces for $100 if you send them the intsrument console.

Suggestion

That sounds good to me, although I am going to check with a local dealer that I will have install the short throw shifter to determine their estimate of time to install the faces.

I'd put installation at a 4.8, Not too bad but not as easy as changing the shifter!

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Greetings, I am the proud new owner of a 2001 C2 cab (previously had a 99 Boxster). I'd like to get aluminum gauge faces but I have a few questions... -Has anyone experienced light "bleed through" in non-Porsche faces? -Any feedback on $199.00 sets (Tweeks) vs. $499.00 sets? -On a 1 to 10 scale (10 being building a space shuttle and 1 being legos) how difficult are these to install for a non-mechanic? I have enjoyed reading these forums for a few weeks now and look forward to your opinions. Mojo/Robert

POST 2Original post

The bleed through is significant on the cheaper gauges. Get the factory ones, or at least a quality set. I'd put installation at a 4.8, Not too bad but not as easy as changing the shifter!

POST 3Original post

check out NR Auto 's web site. I believe they are 300/set and claim they are made of polycarbonate and meet ISO 9000 standards . They are to gauge faces what Cogan is to front end bras . Don't know about bleed through with them though.

POST 4Original post

After some checking I learned that By Design will install the Techart manufactured aluminum faces for $100 if you send them the intsrument console. (takes them an hour or so to install, but with shipping you will be out of commission for a few days. That sounds good to me, although I am going to check with a local dealer that I will have install the short throw shifter to determine their estimate of time to install the faces. From my checking, it is worth the extra money to get factroy spec faces. The Cargrahpic faces bleed light through the faces, not just the numbers as the Techart faces do. I am also told that the techartt guages do not say "Techart" on them, which is good for me.
