Suggestion

Actually I believe the turbo is a tad quieter than the NA 996, because of the "use" of the exhaust gasses.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was recently driving North on 405 from LAX to Santa Monica. On the *other* side of the highway, I saw and *heard* a yellow Porsche screaming down at what must have been around 100 to 120mph. The car had a guttural roar/whine. By the time I recognized the car as a Porsche, it had already passed by. Being in the market for a 996, I am rather curious. What did I likely hear? A 996? A 996 Turbo? Most importantly -- yes -- I know it is vain -- but I liked the sound. Not yet able to afford a Turbo, what would my future 996 sound like at 100mph? Are there MP3s out on the net? Can the sound be substantially changed with exhaust upgrades? Thanks in Advance, Porsche-owner in training.

POST 2Original post

Just buy the 996 and punch some holes in the muffler like everyone else in Southern California. Just kidding.. No death threats please. Actually I believe the turbo is a tad quieter than the NA 996, because of the "use" of the exhaust gasses. Buy the NA car and put some sport mufflers on it. It will sound great.
