Suggestion
Someone needs to dyno test a B&B and hopefully see some nice gains so that we can all stop talking about Milltek and AWE and be able to buy something that works for half the price.

I still don't understand by B&B uses straps to hang their mufflers while everyone else welds brackets to theirs and simply bolt them up, but that may not bug you at all either.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Whatever his exact combination of tuning was, it worked!
I've seen all the threads on exhausts: awe, tubi,
fabspeed
, etc. I ran accross the new B&B
exhaust
for the
Cayman
. Anyone with experience with this one?

Thanks!
I was getting ready to pull the trigger on the Milltek, based on all the good things I heard about it here. But my dealer is recommending B&B, and it is half the price of the Milltek. Is the Milltek twice as good??
I would spend the money on AWE or Miltek. They are simply the best and most proven systems for our cars. There are others, but they are not as quality as the mentioned two.
I definitely would not spend the money. I have the complete BB system and I think it measures up to any of the others. It is a bit louder though. I like the way the tips are part of the
exhaust
. The fit and finish are top quality. I believe if you saw all the systems laying side by side you would choose the BB.
rpm range for drone? sound clip somewhere? Would be nice if someone volunteered to dyno a before and after on BB.
nevermind, i did a search after i posted and found the drone range...
I got a ride in the dealership parts guy's 05
Boxster S
that has intake, B&B
exhaust
, chip,
eibach springs
w/
PASM
, etc. He says it has approx 305 (crank?) hp. It felt very fast and seemed to handle really well too. The
exhaust
sounds good, but was a little louder than I would like. The parts manager supports a lot of the club racers in the area and they do a lot of their own real world research on parts at the track then pass on their recommendations to their customers. He thinks the B&B is one of the best exhausts available for the
Cayman
. He is not familiar with Milltek, but has tried
Fabspeed
, FTV and some others that I was not familiar with. The B&B seems to be really well made and has high quality welds, etc. My only reservation was with the loudness. The drone that some mention occurs from 2200-3200 rpm, but that would not affect cruising speeds on the freeway, unless ur traveling under 60 mph (which I never do). I noticed it more in just around town driving, of course when getting into the throttle, etc. The engine response was really impressive. Whatever his exact combination of tuning was, it worked! I'm still leaning to the Milltek, because of it's rep for being quiet, and for the enthusiastic support it has on this site, but the price on the B&B is also tempting... hmmmm.
CS Jeff,
As you heard the B&B has drone in that rpm range and in 6th gear on the highway you will be in that range fairly often, I suppose you could drop down to 5th to bring the rpms up more. You also need to amplify what you heard in a
Boxster
to be louder inside the cabin of a
Cayman
because it will be. I would like to see your parts guy's dyno as I am doubtful of his claims.
I'm sure both Milltek and B&B have quality welds, I haven't seen an aftermarket
exhaust
with shoddy welds in I can't remember how long. It really comes down to do you want something a little quieter and with less drone but more expensive or not. I still don't understand by B&B uses straps to hang their mufflers while everyone else welds brackets to theirs and simply bolt them up, but that may not bug you at all either. Best of luck with whatever you decide!
The straps will not show. The reason they use the straps is that they need to be able to adjust the
exhaust
so that the tips line up easier. The mufflers are very small nothing hangs down.

Chris R.
People can buy whatever they want. I concur it would be nice to have independent dyno tests on the B&B, the last time we contacted them about that topic they were not interested. Buying an
exhaust
should not be done on HP numbers alone but rather a combination of fit, finish, hp, sound, looks and whatever other criteria are important to the buyer.
I'm sorry for the ignorant question, but could someone describe "drone" to me, what is it and what is it about it that makes it unpleasant? I'm seriously considering the B&B system and will be making the move in the
next
two months but definitely would like to take everyone's opinion into consideration. Thank you in advance for your help.
drone is the part of the
exhaust
note that when you're driving you're thinking "That sounds horrible" and either get off the gas a little or give it more gas to pass that RPM range to get rid of it
It's that annoying reverberation that you find at certain rpm's and it seems that despite what the manufacturer say, they all drone to some extent, some more than others but they all tend to do it (take a look at people's opinions on different systems).
Solution: drive faster!
Russ you can see the system at the BB website that was just posted. I am extreemly happy with my choice of BB. The system is louder than the others but I have no drone issues. Drone is horrific in my sons Mazda but in my car I can listen to music and talk without yelling to the passenger.
This looks like a really good system.
I really can't seem to justify spending $700 more for a couple of hp's.
The look, sound and no negative performance gains are all I care about.
BB quality
I have been toying with the idea of getting a BB exhaust for my Cayman 2.7.
I looked at everything that is available and the BB looks like it is a fine product.
Luckily their main office is right here in Phoenix so I can drive over and check them out before purchasing.
Will let you know if I wind up buying.
