I have used a variety of other exhausts on the Vipers and Corvettes I have owned, will the Cayman sound like a V-8, no way, but the B&B Catback system does just fine for what I was looking for.

I don't have B&B dyno test numbers from any independent source, it seems that anyone who has installed it hasn't gone to the trouble to dyno before and after and show some results.

POST 1Original post

this looks really good with some great videos and dyno results. i need to decide between tubi an BB. http://www.bbexhaust.com/car/cayman/

POST 2Original post

Has anyone on this site actually installed a Billy Boat exhaust? The videos do sound interesting, but I wouldn't expect much of a power gain. Better throttle response would be nice...

POST 3Original post

on thier site...Billy Boat shows +9HP with BB exhaust and +17HP with BB exhuast and headers. great picture as well of the headers underneath.

POST 5Original post

santa fe, thanks for the additional info...i missed that one.

POST 6Original post

So since some time has passed, i was wondering if anyone has some new insight on the B&B system? I am debating which system to buy and it seems to me that the B&B is a good deal. Here in Canada things are most pricey than in the US. The 3 systems I'm looking at are: Fabspeed: $1800 CAN-plus the $500 for the tips. This system looks a bit cheesy and it hangs down and looks kinda ugly, despite what Mr. Fabiani says. Do they hold up well? Sound good? Performance? B&B: $1500 CAN it looks nicest to my eyes and is the best bang for the buck, it would seem. I have heard that it does not make as much power as others but I have seen a test that shows a healthy 9-10hp over stock which is damn close to K-man's AWE system (+11hp) for less cash (AWE is $2500 CAN). is it too loud? Milltek: $2600! CAN-far and away the most expensive and a perenial favorite here it seems. is it worth the extra $1100 over the B&B? I have not seen any dyno results with the cat back only, just he full system. Also, I'm not a big fan of how the pipes go under the muffler and hang down...looks weird to me. I should mention that i don't mind it being loud as long as I can pass the noise regulations at the two tracks I frequent (Calabogie and tremblant). How do these systems hold up? Any troubles-baffles coming loose, things breaking etc.? Any insight would be great! Thanks Chris

POST 7Original post

didn't the last time somebody asked about the BB exhaust they got kicked of this site, sold their CS, and started a 50pg thread on ********.

POST 8Original post

Yeah well, I'm not that guy so.... Unfortunatly all of his comments (about the exhaust along with all the offensive stuff) have been erased so I'm asking again.

POST 9Original post

We have a Cayman 2.7 in Gainesville with the BB exhaust, the owner is user Night Ryder 987 and I went for a drive with him the other day. Let me tell you, his 2.7 was QUICK, he said he definitley felt a good boost after the B&B exhaust and he used to be a tech for BMW \VW. Build quality on the exhaust is great and it looks very neat and tucked away. My AWE hangs at about the same level and has smaller, more squared mufflers. I think I prefer the look of the BB exhaust. I prefer the sound of the AWE exhaust, the BB is a little deeper\flatter sounding; but still sounds much better than stock. I got the AWE because for me, it was the best ratio of dynoed power gains and sound. And I am very, very happy with my decision. - Suneet

POST 10Original post

What about AWE? I don't see that listed among your choices. I think the B&B is fine, is just doesn't make as much horsepower, and it is a little harder to install because it uses straps, kinda like a bra...

POST 11Original post

I did the B&B install a few weeks ago on my Cayman-S. The quality and the fit and finish was excellent. The install was pretty simple with the exception of the straps that actually hold the mufflers onto the provided brackets. ( I did not use the straps but tack welded the mufflers to the brackets). The sound is a big improvment over stock through the entire rpm range, not too loud but just enough to know that it has been changed. The response feels a little better when you hit the gas, the "seat of the pants" meter says its a little quicker. I have used a variety of other exhausts on the Vipers and Corvettes I have owned, will the Cayman sound like a V-8, no way, but the B&B Catback system does just fine for what I was looking for. I don't think you will be disappointed.

POST 12Original post

$2400 Canadian, ah ok, I was confused since the AWE is less than that in US $. Remember the AWE tests are actual rear wheel hp on a mustang dyno, vs. manufacturer's claims of hp on some other dyno, so you really can't compare the 2 numbers to each other and say they are "about equal" unless you do back to back testing. I don't have B&B dyno test numbers from any independent source, it seems that anyone who has installed it hasn't gone to the trouble to dyno before and after and show some results. If B&B ever stepped up to the plate to be a sponsor they could send us a unit for testing and I'd be happy to do so, tell them that again if you talk to them.

POST 13Original post

I am getting (finally) the AWE catback as I believe it to be the best overall package for me. However, I have looked into the BB and to be fair it looks like a very solid overall package from what I can research. Well made, nice design, good sound (from the clips I have heard only), decent confirmed gains of 9hp I believe, and a very good price. Can you use stock tips with the BB though? Good luck with your decision and let us know what you go with and your impressions.

POST 14Original post

Who/when was this? Have a link to the ******** thread??

POST 16Original post

Oh was that him. I remember seeing many posts of his over at ******** bashing this forum and some of the people here. And one ridiculous thread he started for a poll on which site was better for OVERALL Porsche information??? Well, D'UH considering this is a Cayman specific/focused site I guess that would have to be ********... I think I remember Chows over there calling him out on it also

POST 17Original post

I have BB complete system. I think it is the best looking and I seriously doubt if any other system would produce more power at any rpm. The sound level would be high compared to the others. The mufflers are smaller. I live in a small beach community and have no access to a dyno or I would have it done for final proof. I know how quick my car is and I am pleased with the product. I would however like to put it on the dyno for the sake of those who need to make a decision.

POST 18Original post

What concerns me with the BB is the loss of TQ below 2500rpm. Is that noticeable in real terms?

POST 19Original post

team526, No offense to the BB system, but I believe other systems are just as good or better. Doing a dyno on your car now doesn't tell us what your car was making prior to the install, what we really need is an independent before/after dyno test.

POST 20Original post

Thanks team526, that info helps. Man it's so annoying that the systems cost so much landed here... I think I'm going to try the B&B and I will also try to do osme before/after dyno testing so that we can have some real numbers for the system. Chris

POST 21Original post

Looks like we need to add Chris R to the ban list...... Just teasing. It was too funny to resist, thinking that someone would be banned for buying or advocating a B&B exhaust. Actually, I am curious to see actual results on the system. There's been so much talk about it, but no one has actually stepped up and done a before after dyno. Chris, you can be the first. Good luck. I'll look forward to learning more through your experience.

POST 22Original post

There is no question that my car is considerably faster. Three drivers have driven it and two of us with racing experience agree to a big difference in performance. Now I need to be more careful accelerating out of turns because the car will fishtail too easily. Mods: -desnork -BB complete system (no cats) -Orton remap -H&R lowering springs

POST 24Original post

I have a B&B exhaust in my 964 - and haven't been really impressed with the build quality. Granted, my parts are a bit older and their quality hopefully has improved over the years.

POST 26Original post

Actually I believe the Orton remap is the euro flash that disables the 2nd O2 sensors so no CEL is tripped, although technically that makes your car an off-road car only and is a violation of federal law to tamper with pollution control systems. I say technically because I understand some owners don't care. Since catless headers have been shown to produce less horsepower on the dyno than those with cats, there are tradeoffs to everything.

POST 28Original post

Yes REALLY as shown on at least 3 dyno tests I've seen posted. It seems that either the shape of these headers or the lack of backpressure is actually hurting the HP produced. After the first test that showed that I thought it was a mistake, then came the 2nd, then the comprehensive one done in the UK recently, all showing headers without cats produced 4-6 hp less than those with.

POST 29Original post

what if we went with headers with no cats but there was a second set of cats??

POST 30Original post

Wouldn't help a CE situation unless you relocated sensors. As far as HP goes, nobody knows for sure, but still might not create enough backpressure if too far downstream, someone would have to do some testing to be sure, who knows could be the ideal set up too.

POST 34Original post

APR did the work for our car, that included the exhaust

POST 35Original post

Absolute, So APR installed it but its a BB system? Also, Silent Will you asked what tips the BB system uses, but the BB system has its own tips as there are two separate pipes, like the milltek system. - Suneet

POST 36Original post

Suneet Thx man. I saw it on the BB site. It looks a nice bit of kit and a good price. The sound clip was pretty impressive also. The dyno results are a little concerning with the loss of TQ below 2500rpm?
