Read evidence and context

Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My 2001 C4 makes a knocking sound when warming up beginning at about 180 degrees. The sound comes from the center of the car just in front of the windshield and lasts about 2-3 minutes. An unrelated problem is the steering column. When going around turns on uneven pavement, I feel play or vibration on the steering wheel and column. Kind of like a little rattle. Anyone know what these two things are?

POST 2Original post

Hi: Have you had any work done on your car recently, or done anything unusual?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Have not done anything unusual. The car only has 2,000 miles on it.

POST 4Original post

My 99 996 used to make a knocking sound at start up before I had the motor replaced. I could also here a bit of a ticking sound.

POST 5Original post

Take it to the dealer. I hear nothing in my C4 but the purr of the engine.
