My time at the track was a blast and I'm curious what is the best tires for tracking and in the near future I plan to get new rims and all so what rims would you recommend for the track and would 17 or 18's be better.

You can also run 11's in the rear, better fit for 285's.

I was running 245/18's up front with just HR sport springs.

Also, The more negative camber you run the better for tire clearance on the 996.

Hi there. 245/35/18 - 285/30/18 Hoosiers on 8.5/10.5 inch wheels work very well on the 996. You will, however, have more tire options if you use 17 inch wheels.

Hello, Jim B hit it on the head. You can also run 11's in the rear, better fit for 285's.
I would spend the money on a quality wheel, Fikse, Kinesis or similar.

Running larger tires up front would it be necessary to do any other suspension mods or other things ie spacers? You're right about addiction. I mean I'm looking into lightening up my 996 and that alone is costly but what great fun it was to go on the track for the first time and learn how great a 911 can do on the track : ). Regards. MIke
I was running 245/18's up front with just HR sport springs. I did however have BBS race magnesium wheels on the car and I am not sure exactly what the offsets are. You definitely do not need to use spacers. I recommend you contact a reputable wheel supplier(you are buying new ones anyway) and when you order the larger widths, they will make the necessary offset corrections so they will fit. Keep in mind though, I believe ONLY 285/35/18's will fit, if you go to a 40 or 45 series tire I think they would rub signifigantly!

Dennis, do you happen to know the sizes of your wheel halves or the offset on your front BBS Mag wheels. I just bought some slightly used 8.5/11X18. The 11s fit fine on back but the 8.5s rub the coilover. My halves are 7.5 inch and one inch. I'm pretty sure I want them rebuilt as 7 inch and 1.5 inch but would appreciate any help you can provide. Thanks
