I do notice a smoother running engine thruout the rev range after the UNICHIP but if your looking for that seat of your pants feeling I would not say that.

My question is if I plan to use 100 octane gas would it be useless to use since the Unichip is configured for 91 octane?

Only reason why using 100 octane is its better for the engine and I was hoping if I should decide to have TRG do the toggle aspect and dyno for 100 Octane it may yield more bhp which is why I'm asking the board if yay or nay on that.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My car now has the Unichip in place and its configured to be used using 91 octane gas. My question is if I plan to use 100 octane gas would it be useless to use since the Unichip is configured for 91 octane? Also after reading TRG's website they do have a method of installing a toggle switch so I could toggle between 91 and 100 octane which means TRG would reconfigure two maps for the 91 and the 100. The charge is nominal but is it worth the hassle to do and would there be any benefit to go this route? Thanks in advance. Mike

POST 2Original post

I don't have any answers for you but I'm very interested in your impressions of before/after chip install. HP gain is nice but so is throttle response, which I'm looking to increase. Our premium octane is 93, does the chip increase the liklihood of engine knocking? Why do you need 100 octane? Thanks in advance.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well in terms of other then the Unichip I also installed Fabspeed exhaust/cold air intake plus bmc f1 filter. With the chip they were able to add extra 15-22bhp which is measured thru the rear wheel from 5000-7000 rpm. Now if your looking at low end increases then its very nominal like maybe extra 5-7 bhp from 3500-4500 rpm. What I do noticed though that prior to the UNICHIP with the mods I done I felt a loss in torque going up on steep hills but only noticeable if there is passenger with me but once the UNICHIP was placed it restored back to normal. I do notice a smoother running engine thruout the rev range after the UNICHIP but if your looking for that seat of your pants feeling I would not say that. Only reason why using 100 octane is its better for the engine and I was hoping if I should decide to have TRG do the toggle aspect and dyno for 100 Octane it may yield more bhp which is why I'm asking the board if yay or nay on that. Regards. Mike P.S.- best bang for the buck though is getting a short shift kit like B&M for $300- very large difference-very smooth, precise and quicker.
