Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
14 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.
1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

I'm still not sure what year we're talking as a 997 can be anything from late 2004 to 2011.
Always wanted a 911, don’t know why or when but it’s been my dream car. Stepson did his apprenticeship with Porsche so the thought of cheap servicing bolstered my desire for one.
Businesses looking strong, received a small inheritance so started looking. Local specialist started selling so always looked at his stock. Had 2 in stock, one he wouldn’t sell me as it’s a turbo and a black 997 c4 cab 31k miles and great service history that peaked my interest. Went to look, fell in love, bought without even a test drive. He’ll put it through mot, new breaks and 6 month warranty. Can’t wait! So excited! Any tips/thoughts welcome
Kev, like you I’ve just bought my 1st Porsche, a 997.1 C2S coupe (silver, manual natch).
My only advice to you is, you’re in for a real treat, they’re everything people said they are.
I’m just in the process of sorting out the sticky buttons and fitting a Bluetooth adaptor this weekend.
Enjoy it!

Some of us (ahem) just bought into the 911 thing at an early stage!!!
My mother has kept my bookends in one of the spare rooms that I had when at school….. I want them back but she now wants them as it reminds her what a ‘good’ job she did! (She rode in our first but not our latest - 991.2 Turbo S Cab)
Pls forgive the ‘dolly’ but she is 812 yrs old

He'll make even more than that if he can bottle up whatever elixir his mother has been taking to reach 812 years old.

Is this local specialist a proper Porsche outfit or do they deal in all makes and models?
In general most warranties are basically useless if you get a big bill. So if I were you I'd investigate the details of this warranty. In Porsche circles most well educated owners believe the only warranty worth having is the genuine Porsche warranty but with an older car this isn't possible.
I don't want to go on too much about the potential problems older cars like this can throw up because I don't want to be all doom and gloom.
If its a decent outfit then you're doing well. If it's not or you just want some extra reassurance then consider getting it inspected.
Don't forget
There is no such thing as a cheap Porsche.
Specialises in Porsche and Ferrari. My step
Son worked for him for a while so I know he’s honest. Cars ready to collect now but the valet guys he uses can’t get it done until early next week. I said I’d take it now but he wants to give it to me in as good as condition as possible. Have left enough in the car fund to fix anything that crops up

Sounds like a Good Outfit then
Do you know what the maximum warranty claim payout is - should the worst happen?
I'm still not sure what year we're talking as a 997 can be anything from late 2004 to 2011. If its in the earlier range then all sorts of stuff could be ready for attention. It depends if it has been garaged to some extent at this age. I recently bought a 22000 mile Boxster which is 2001 and it looks brand new underneath because it has basically been dry stored for 20 years. I also have a 1998 996 which needed all new rigid brake pipes, coolant flexi tubes, PAS flexi tubes and clutch fluid pipe - I left the AC alone. So just pipes and tubing can run you up to a bill for 2k.
In terms of the drive then its the suspension where your attention will land at first. My 2001 Boxster has tired suspension and you can feel that as its a bit vague. Its probably all original I'd guess on my car and probably will be on yours. The shocks are normally reasonably bullet proof. Its all the arms and top mounts which get tired and start to go off as the rubber bushings age and deteriorate even if it is not driven and kept in a heated garage. Engine and gearbox mounts too.
But dont worry about ant of that. Just enjoy the car and see how it feels. Hopefully you will just love it as is and you can just drive the thing. Will it get used as an every day driver or kept for special occasions?
Thought id add my 2 penneth' worth as i cant start my own thread just yet, newbie!
But I have also just bought my first 911. Ill go into more details later, but I am picking up a 8 month old 992 Turbo S on Monday. To say I'm excited would be an understatement. I know I have bought at the very top of the market but what can you do if you want something now. Will post pics soon

Coincidentally I was at the hospital with her yesterday - she checked which car I was bringing as she doesn’t think she can get in and out of the Turbo anymore…..
I’m not convinced she will make it to 850!
