Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Unfortunately since the engime mgmt chip & tip were installed together, my findings are really based on the 'package'.
Leading evidence: 'Install together, my findings are really based' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Install together, my findings are really based' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am considering purchasing performance chips for my '99 996 Carrera Tiptronic. Has anyone done this combo before and if so, what results were achieved? Also, what companies do you recommend?
You may want to check out Steve of Rennsport Systems and TRG(The Racer's Group) Unichip. I don't know too much about tiptronic but I heard good comments on Rennsport but I opted for TRG. You may want to ask them about that. I looked into RENNSPORT but you had to send the whole MOTRONIC unit to them whereas the UNICHIP is a piggyback unit that is configured in house under the dyno which took 3hrs. It was a matter of convenience since TRG was local. Hope that helps ya. I saw alot of posts with reverance to both RENNSPORT and TRG so you can check out the archives. Good Luck. Mike
I have the Rennsport engine mgmt chip and they also got me a remapped tip chip too.
SInce I got them together I can't really comment on each, although the difference in behaviour from the Tip was significant. Shifts are
MUCH
faster, manual shifting is pleasurable again, and it redlines before shifts in auto mode with wide open throttle. The tip still hunts up to fifth gear too quickly for me in auto mode but that mirrors the stick Tip behaviour. With aggressive driving the Tip performance is like night & day different from stock.
The difference in driveability is quite pronounced. The HP differences weren't that great but partial throttle response was much more responsive. I've got a dyno sheet here somewhere that showed 320 Din/SAE after I had the chips/BMC F1/Fabspeed header/mufflers. I was told that I probably lost a little with the headers vs. Porsche but they sound great.
Unfortunately since the engime mgmt chip & tip were installed together, my findings are really based on the 'package'. Also worth noting is that the installation has been faultless - ECU is happy etc.
Hope this helps,
Graham, does the Tiptronic reprogramming chip allow redline( 7200 rpm) shifts in first and second gear , instead of autoshifting at 6600 rpm in first and 6900 rpm in second even in mauaul mode , which I find THE most annoying aspect of the Tip transmission ? I would buy that chip in a second if it allows that. TIA.

In manual mode:
Definitely 7k+ in first. I'll just pop out & try the others... (something to try this afternoon now!) I think it's still ~7k in second.
Auto: 1st is 7k, 2nd I'll have to recheck but I generally run out of road on a hard acceleration from 1st and so I'm letting up and it shifts up.
Manual mode is great now. Auto is vastly better as you don't get that slow delay/lunge if not on open throttle.
Graham
In manual mode:
1st 7000
2nd 7000
3rd 7200
4th err, enough
(sorry - I want to keep my license and so I couldn't test this)
5th ditto
Auto shifts under wide open throttle seem to be the same.
That's great ! The Tip automatically upshifting in first at 6600 even in manual mode is THE most annoying aspect of my car. The car is barely moving before I'm in 2nd ! I'm definitely going to check out this chip. I believe it is from GIAC.
