Yep...detailed the car yesterday and broke off part of the "b" of the boxster emblem in ther rear decklid. Very annoying. A loop of my wash mitt got caught in the top part of the "b" and broke it off. And here is to me thinking the emblem could at least be made out of metal…nope, cheap plastic. Suncoast has a replacement for under $30 so I'll need to either replace it or take it to the dealer for them to replace.
btw, anyone think there is a chance in hell that dealer would replace it free of charge?
On the good side of things, I installed the clear side markers and it looks much better. Very easy install (just a few minutes). It took me a minute or two to analyze how to remove the retaining metal clip for the harness, but then got it (nota bene: push clip “in” – vertical plane push in the direction from the wire into the lens housing; easy peasy). Oh, and the car looks fantastic after the detail. I can’t take pics because my girl has the camera and she’s stuck in Moscow for work (stupid volcano and related flight disruptions).
:hilarious:
You broke it, why would they?
I'm going to throw a brick though my passenger window and see if the dealer will replace it.
smart arse
. because this should not happen. I washed my car like I've washed all my previous cars, emblems and all...and guess what, none of them had an emblem that broke off even after getting caught with wash mitt or drying microfiber. it's a flimsy emblem that must have been defective (or something) to allow the mitt thread to get in between the plastic emblem and the "foamey" adhessive backing.
I would just remove the rest of the emblem, polish the lid and call it a day. I think it would look just fine.

i debadged mine....looks great
Save the "Dealer Favor" for a better reason (and they do, do them). It's cheap enough and gives you new options (debadge, go black, body color, chrome, grey). Be thankful you didn't screw up something more difficult to repair or more costly to replace.
When I bought my used Boxster, the previous owner had done the same thing with the tip of the "r". I removed and replaced it, but am very careful when detailing not to do what he did. I usually place my left hand on the lettering while I buff with my right so I don't forget. It's very easy for it to happen.
ooook folks, you convinced me. i'll just buy and replace it myself. I was just mad at myself for breaking it...I just didn't know how delicate it was. now I know better. I still think is a poor and flimsy design. I'm not sure I'll like the debaged look, so i'll just get an exact replacement from suncoast. my car is silver, so the stock looks great.
FWIW when I bought my CS, my sales person went over every detail of the car we had not previously covered, including the point of being careful when detailing around the emblem
Seems it has happened before.
If you use micro-fiber towels with their tight weave pattern you may have better fortune avoiding this in the future.
I always thought the Boxster emblem looked cheap anyway and the fact that it was plastic and glued on was annoying on a Porsche. I used the dental floss method and removed mine, polished off the glue and like the rear end of the car much better. I put a nice looking Porsche badge emblem on the acrylic windscreen and now it looks like a Porsche.
Agree 100% - my black Boxster looks so much better without the cheap odd colored emblem. To the OP - leave it off - you know what kind of car it is.
