When it is cold out and I start the car, the climate control system fan runs and blows cold air until the car warms up. Every other car I've had/seen with automatic climate control doesn't turn the fan on until the engine has some heat in it so it can blow warm air when it's cold out.
Does everyone else's Cayman do the same thing or do I have a problem?
Sounds like you may have a problem, depending on where the temps set to??
Mine does the same damned thing.
The Japanese have this figured out:
turn the fan off until there is heat available.
The automatic control is turning out to be a mistake.
Fan? Heat? Radio? Music? In my Cayman I think I have those options. But, I've been having so much driving enjoyment that I never really noticed. You see, I'm a true Porsche man!

Mine works correctly. (Doesn't seem anyone was chiming in to say that your behavior is unusual).
I have the standard climate control, and also blows at the set fan speed, which is frustrating. Swancoat, do you have the optional climate control that varies the fan speed?
Automatic CC
To clarify, mine is the automatic climate control which is what I'm asking about.
It would not surprise me if the manual climate control had the fan on when cold since it probably doesn't have the temperature sensors the automatic climate control has.
My problem (automatic climate control) concerns the defroster.
WHenever selected it pumps hot air - even if it's 90oF outside and/or I have dailed way down the climate control
Anyone have this issue? I can;t believe it's normal... (car's in storage with manual).

Are you sure that you have the fan speed set on automatic? If you manually change the fan speed, the system leaves the automatic mode and will remain at this fixed speed until changed. Try pressing the AUTO button and see if you don't get the desired behavior again.

My automatic climate control works fine, fan speed increases as the system warms up. The defrost is an odd P thing. My Cayenne does the same thing either hot air or cold with the A/C on lowest setting, no in between. I asked the dealer and service tech when I bought my first P, they both looked mystified like "why would I ask such a question"?
Auto CC operation
Here is the response from my salesman:
I have auto Climate and mine works perfect. I don't understand why there should be a set fan speed when you first start your car. That is why they call it automatic. As far as rrosen's salesman, da! He's wrong. Mine fan does not start until the car gets warm. Anyones car that operates differently should have it checked out.
I have the Auto Climate Control. Fan stays low until the engine heats up. Then it speeds up and blows some air.
