Hello out there! I read the topics about enginerattles but the rattle in my engine is slightly different. It's a 2005 Boxster S. A year and a half I received a new engine with the big bearing intermediate shaft. After the winterhibernation I changed the engineoil and filter. When I came home the engine was hot. At tickover a hear now a rattle in the righthand cylinderbank. When I start the engine, if it's cold, it's silent. Only when the engine is thouroughly hot the rattling noise is there. The oil is the correct Mobil one. The engine has now run 8500 km's. I went to a Porsche dealership to have it investigated. They said it's alright. Don't worry. But I do. Even after a good thresh the noise is there. After my opnion it has nothing to do with the long hibernation. Any suggestions? The variocam comes in at a certain RPM. After the revs comes down the cam should go to it's original position. Is it possible that the variocamactuator is stuck? Or is it a dirty lifter like the man at Porsche said? If so, it should happen with a cold engine because the oil is still thick and not with a hot engine as the oil is very fluid.

Hello Nitro, Thank you for your reaction. I did this afternoon. I visited a free Porsche specialist. He assured me that the engine is O.K. But I don't like that tapping noise at all....

I'm not sure what you mean by tapping noise. But is it possible to try out a similar car, a friend's or a car at the dealer or anything for comparison? It could be something normal but you're just not used to it?! Other than that, you said you replaced the engine a year and a half ago, did the noise start since then?

Hello Nitro, All went well with the new engine. The running in process was very very gentle. I never stretched it to the limit. The noise began after the oilchange. It was the first oilchange with this new engine. The engine pulls very well though. It's just that metallic click-de-click noise at tickover that drives me mad. As soon as the loudpedal is pressed, say at 1050/1100 revs., the noise is gone. I think I have to live with it, that's what my wife said......
