Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I have an 09 CS PDK and recently noticed when I'm cruising along and then I start to accelerate, between 1600 - 1700 rpm, I hear a metallic rattle coming from the rear. It sounds like a screw is rattling around the muffler area, but only happens for a second or two at most in that 1700 rpm range. Anyone encounter this and have any idea what it could be? Thanks.

POST 2Original post

Check the heat shield, it may be loose or touching the muffler.

POST 3Original post

Thanks Gasman, I'll check it out when I get the chance.

POST 4Original post

Might also be an internal baffle that broke lose or a bad cat.

POST 5Original post

My 06 CS makes the same noise, but it's more like 2,100 RPM during mild acceleration or float throttle. I hoped it would go away after installing a Milltek cat-back system, but it's still there. Now I suspect it's the cat on the passenger side header. My car is off warranty, but emissions devices are covered longer. If I can prove it's the cat I might get the dealer to replace it under the emissions warranty.
