I use the 40.6 when working on my 970.1 Panamera without issue, but it wont automatically identify my 996.2 when its connected and doesnt read all the modules correctly either.

Next step is to run a jumper wire between the ABS CU and the OBD port to see if the lower resistance changes the PIWIS response.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I cannot seem to get a connection between PIWIS and the ABS Control Unit. The Car is a 2001 C2. The screen on the PIWIS flickers between seeing the control unit and not seeing it. I have tried a second used ABS CU but that did not change anything. I can connect to all the other CU's. I has been suggested that the K-wire (diagnostic wire) could be an issue and that the K-wire to the stereo could be the problem. But, there is no stereo and I do not have a K-wire in that harness. There does not seem to be any visually apparent connection issues at the ABS plug-in or the OBD plug-in. Fortunately the car has relatively few CU's, specifically DME, ABS, Alarm, Air Bag, AC, Cluster, Seat Memory. Anybody have some troubleshooting ideas?

POST 2Original post

Jiggle the wire harness at the connector to the ABS module. See if that changes your ability to connect with PIWIS.

POST 3Original post

What PIWIS are you using? PIWIS 1/2/3 - genuine or clone?

POST 5Original post

Quotes source post: 19446977

There are a few PIWIS 3 clones IMO none of them are really that good yet. Get a P2 clone - much better for a 996. The P3 only works well with newer cars.

POST 6Original post

Did you figure this out? You might need to get a battery charger to keep the battery voltage above 14v.

POST 7Original post

Its the VCI none of the clones are perfect Im not surprised certain lines don't work. What is the exact VCI? There is only one clone that is decent but its 3 x the price of all of them

POST 8Original post

Quotes source post: 19449610

Would you be willing to point me in that direction?

POST 9Original post

Quotes source post: 19450005

The PIWIS 2 system is much more stable than the PIWIS 3 clone for the 9x6 series - that's what I'd recommend

POST 10Original post

Oh I see. I assumed you were talking about a specific PCB that was better than the other PIWIS 2 (or 3). Thank you for your recommendation.

POST 11Original post

Okay, I actually have another question. At which generation does the PIWIS 2 stop being useful, and the PIWIS 3 is a better substitute? 991, Im assuming? And what about the other cars, like the Cayenne and Panamera, etc edit: oops, I just realized theres an edit function.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you for the bits of advice. I am still working on this issue. I have an excellent power supply. I have a VXDAS clone and a DoIP VCI. I have checked the resistance of the Kwire between the ABS CU and the OBD port. It is 10 ohms which seems a bit high. I thought perhaps that was the issue. There is a welding splice between the 2 points. I have been digging into the wiring harness in the location identified by the wiring diagram but I have not been able to find the splice that is a potential point of the problem. Next step is to run a jumper wire between the ABS CU and the OBD port to see if the lower resistance changes the PIWIS response.

POST 13Original post

I have a clone piwis 2 and it works properly on 996, 997 and 955/957 cayenne. Probably on others which I have not tried yet. I don't have a 991, 992, or 958 to test it on. If someone wants to drop-ship me a 992 GT3 RS I promise I'll try it and report back.

POST 14Original post

Can anyone recommend a PIWIS 2 to purchase? -Tom

POST 15Original post

my piwis3 clone connects easily to ABS of 996. with a clone vas6154 (the gray thingy). as it was mentioned, try connecting with high voltage, e.g. engine running. otherwise keep digging on the wiring...

POST 16Original post

I was thinking about buying this piwis3 and a $100 laptop. Dont know if its any good as i have not done that much research. I think most of this stuff is a roll of the dice. https://www.autonumen.com/goods-7102...stic-Tool.html

Not sure that it matters, but I also have one of those VXDAS PIWIS3 clone setups, not which VCI, it came as a package deal from them a couple of years ago. My computer has two different OS versions I can run at startup. I use the 40.6 when working on my 970.1 Panamera without issue, but it wont automatically identify my 996.2 when its connected and doesnt read all the modules correctly either. I have to run 38.2 version to get it to connect and read everything properly on the 996.
