This is ostensibly because some reinforcement of the chassis is performed along with changing the springs and shocks and they don't want parts installed on unreinforced cars.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Have any of you lucky Europeans ordered a 996 with the "X74" suspension option? It's not available in the USA and I understand the X74 suspension is stiffer and lower than the usual European M030 sports suspension; can anyone comment on this new option from experience?

POST 2Original post

Yes, the X74 is more aggressive than the M030. So far, the European press loves the Carrera with this option. It lowers the ROW cars by approximately 30 mm all-around. Unfortunately, this setup is only available as a factory installed option right now. I'll bet soon the parts will also be available.

POST 3Original post

Feb issue of EVO has comparo of this " -30mm " suspension on '02 C2 vs M3 SMG II, Elise, modded Mini Cooper, WRX STi, etc. They state that feeling is increased vs standard "-10mm" ROW 030 sports suspension, it's ability to absorb bumps is " dramatically reduced". The whole car " jiggles and skims" where the standard car steamrolls. The front end runs out of suspension travel and you have to back off. It's great on the track, but slower in real world roads. Depends on what you buy it for.

POST 4Original post

All i can say for you guys with suspension upgrade is that you dont live anywhere near NYC. The potholes are size of a small pond around here and I am the slowest car in the Manhattan(way too busy looking for the next potholes to avoid). Just mabye we can get roads nice as the rest of this lovely country.

POST 5Original post

I second Bloke's response. I have so far scratched 2 rims and bubbled 1 tire from driving my car through Manhattan. Trucks are constantly tailgating me for a change. I long for smooth even roads where I could upgrade my suspension. I guess I just gotta move!!!

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have been told that parts for the X74 option may not be readily available. Parts are only available to owners with a VIN number showing the car had X74 already installed at the factory exclusive shop. This is ostensibly because some reinforcement of the chassis is performed along with changing the springs and shocks and they don't want parts installed on unreinforced cars. Is this true? As for the road quality on the east coast, maybe the market for the Cayenne?
