Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suggestion
As weekend blatter round my local B roads it's even more fun using 2nd and 3rd to the max.
Leading evidence: 'Use 2nd and 3rd' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Use 2nd and 3rd' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

A good friend of mine Scott (Samby as many of you will know him) is starting to look for a 996.
It has to be a Tip, and I was just looking for advice on how the gearbox is on track ?
Plus any other advise you can give.
He is coming out of a Golf GTi (DSG) and I have explained the gears will not change as fast as the DSG.
He is looking for a 996 (pre face lift) with a GT3 areo kit, with no more than 65,000 miles
or
A 996 (face lift) with up to 70,000 miles.
I have advised the face lift so he will have no worries about the shaft worries of the 3.4 (or is the Tip a less % of problems).
Budget of around £18-20k
Stuarts fault, he will be looking for the tequ'ment roll over bar and buckets.
Thanks for any advise.

I've only done Brands Indy in mine, twice, both 20 minute taster sessions.
The first time was my first round Brands in 25 years, not long after I got the car and with SWMBO so I left it in auto and drove like an old woman. It wasn't much fun - but ok for learning lines etc.
After a session a few weeks later in an old banger I felt more confident to drive the 996 a bit harder but didn't want to go silly with brakes or tyres.
There's a lot of fun to be had with the car in manual. Changing up is obviously a piece of p but getting the downchanges right is quite satisfying. I think I did it twice
I found myself buzzing along in 3rd mostly except for the main straight and a couple of times very briefly on the short straight.
EDIT = ps. As weekend blatter round my local B roads it's even more fun using 2nd and 3rd to the max. I'm fortunate to have quite a few wide flat lanes with low hedges and no junctions or entrances to fields.
Hi
On the 993 forum there is at least one Tip owner who tracks his car. He knows what he is doing as well and can probably give some useful advice.
All the best
Berni
Not a 996 as you know, but stick my 997 in Sport and D and let it do all the work for me
It is way better at changing gear than me (and I guess I would expect something Porsche spent €m on developing to be).........I'm way quicker when I leave the car to do it.
In comparison to the DSG it should be smoother as I have found the DSG quite jerky......
I used to track my 993 Tipo all the time and found it to be fantastic fun. I always flicked it across into manual mode and would let the up shift happen automatically at the top to the rev band, but would manually change down. I always felt the car would drive better on the way home from the track then on the way down... I think it liked stretching it's legs.
