The one on the right side tightened without issue but the one on the left (closer to driver's side) seemed like it was stripped as I couldn't tighten it.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

So, my cup holder assembly seemed loose on the left side. I attempted to tighten the torx screws (2 total). The one on the right side tightened without issue but the one on the left (closer to driver's side) seemed like it was stripped as I couldn't tighten it. So, I decided to remove both screws and remove the assembly. The assembly seems fine but the screw attachment in the dash from the left side fell out. How do I put the attachment back into the dash (looks impossible)? Is this normally 2 pieces or is it broken? If it is broken, what part do I need to buy? At this point I cannot re-install because there is no screw attachment on the left side. Hopefully this makes some sense. Pictures included below. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Anthony These are the 2 pieces from the left side that fell out. This is a picture of the right side attachment which is still in place. This is a picture of the left side without any attachment (since it fell out). This is a picture of the cup holder assembly removed which shows the location for the 2 screws (one on each side).

POST 2Original post

I looked at my PET and I believe this is a "grooved nut" or "captive nut". Looks like the surrounding is rubber and presses into the metal bracket that holds the cupholder - what your pictures show. There are 2 part numbers for the captive nut: 999 500 132 00 999 507 319 01 Which one depends on your VIN. The first one is for VINs up to: 60892 or 80986 (I'm guessing that's Base or S. My 2007 CS is 81438) ...the second part number for VINs higher than that. Good luck, let us know how it goes!

POST 4Original post

I had the same problem. I went to the dealer and purchased the rubber grommets. In total about it cost me ten dollars. The problem is the rubber compresses over time and then becomes brittle. Once you get the parts it is a simple easy repair. I hope this helps.

POST 5Original post

After the dealer fixe one of mine I bought 2 of these. They work great. BMW Cup Holders, Porsche Cup Holders, Ultimate Cup Holder - Cupholders / Drink Holders for BMW 3 5 7 Series, Boxster 911 Z4 Mercedes Audi NSX other fine cars.
