Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just like to know what it is. Thanks in advance. Mike

POST 2Original post

A boxer engine is the type used in Porsches. Opposed pistons. Like a boxer punching. Roadster + boxer engine = boxSter....get it? Subaru uses boxer engines too....

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Whats the benefit of the boxer design? Lower center of gravity which I've read on AUTOMOBILE MAGAZINE on the subaru WRC. Do all Porsches have the boxer layout? Thanks. Mike

POST 4Original post

No, not all. The 911's, the 912's, the 914's, 356's, Boxster. The front engined car did not use this technology. The 924, 944, 968 series used in-line 4's and the 928's used V8's. The boxer design is also called a flat, eg. flat-six.

POST 5Original post

Ive read somewhere that the flat 6 cil. (boxer, horizontally opposed) engines have the most balanced design (smoothest) of all configurations followed by the in-line 6 cil.. But they are not a compact as Vs or Ls so no good for small cars and also are more expensive to build due to more parts used. Anyway thats what I read. BTW 2cil. boxers are used in motorcycles too, such as the BMW 1100cc. Carlos from Spain.
