Couldn't give you the hp numbers on the air intake alone because when my car got dynod everything was installed ie fabspeed exhaust/cold air intake/bmc f1 filter/unichip.

So do I feel any difference - to me IMHO just better throttle response thruout the powerband and better torque after 5,000-5500 rpm and engine is running smoother as well after the chip.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well got the kit and installed in about 45mins. I guess for me that is pretty good and all seems to fit well etc etc. Still havent figured out what that carbon ring does but i glued it on and also the carbon fiber looks pretty cool. Then the testing. I took it out for a spirited drive(hope no one is a state trooper and looking for me today). The engine does sound better from abut 4k-6k but then it quites back down as you approach 6.5k-7k. Now, is this common! Finally, i cant tell if i gain any hps but it does sound better and feeling is half the battle i guess. Now if i can just get the car to stop shaking after 120mps.

POST 2Original post

120mph!, you manic maniac! sure hope no State troopers read this. I must agree I had instability at 120mph +. Fitted GT3 front spoiler and H&R Sports Springs - all is well......I just need to sort out the hint of body roll at high speed cornering!!!

POST 3Original post

Having experienced alot of potholes in the city of San Francisco(just can't stop falling into them) I experienced shaking at speeds of 110 and above early on so had it remedied by alignment. Seems Porsche is made for tracking on nicely paved roads not for rally driving in the city : ). Sounds about right with the airbox which I believe most air needed is around 4500-4700 rpm which I believe the torque band is around there. Couldn't give you the hp numbers on the air intake alone because when my car got dynod everything was installed ie fabspeed exhaust/cold air intake/bmc f1 filter/unichip. If you plan to do more mods I recommend you get some baseline dyno on your car when stock so that you got something to compare. I didn't do that which I wished I did. Regards. Mike

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

996cab, i know, if my wife found out this driving habit of mine. she going to kill me but no kids so far but i agree too much. but, couldnt resist testing out a new product. 996Flt, mike, i had the front tires rebalanced but dont know how good the guys were so bringing it in tomorrow for a checkup from a proper dealer. I am not sure whatelse i might do yet. But, mabye go with a sideskirt first.

POST 5Original post

Hi Mike, Just wondering what you HP gain was after mods? Where did you have the dyno done (I'm in SF too)? Barre

POST 6Original post

Hi there Barre. Well to start out I had the Unichip placed at TRG which is where the dyno was done. With the first dyno run wo the Unichip it measured at the wheel of 235 bhp and with the Unichip measured 255 bhp. Like I mentioned on this post I wished I had done a dyno when my car was stock so I could compare. Now only thing I can compare is with Fabspeed's dynograph on their website which measured 218 with the fabspeed muffler and minus the muffler was at 210 if you read the blurb below the graph. So based on that, increase of 25 bhp minus Unichip and 40 bhp with Unichip. So do I feel any difference - to me IMHO just better throttle response thruout the powerband and better torque after 5,000-5500 rpm and engine is running smoother as well after the chip. Now trying to meausre hp gains thru the flywheel I've heard figures between .15-.30 which is such a wide margin don't have a clue. Hope that helps ya. By the way since you live in SF (live over at SeaCliff),Thunderhill raceway is offering Hi performance Racing coarse one day for $195. Did it the first time and it was a blast. Check out their website www.thunderhill.com- I believe the next one is May 5th(sunday) which I'm planning to attend. Great coarse to get a taste about tracking on a more forgiving coarse. By that time my license plate will read my Rennlist ID "996FLT6" with the whale tail specialty plate : ). Regards. Mike

POST 7Original post

Hi Mike, Thunderhill sounds great. I've been to Bondurant at Sears Point years ago. Would love to try the 996 on the track. $195 sounds like a bargain. I've tweaked every car I've owned and most performance mods are dubious (but fun). As you stated, you usually end up with a racier feeling/sounding car but not necessarily a faster car. I'm on 11th/Noriega - maybe I can see your house from my roof!

POST 8Original post

Yes Barre from where you are you could see my house-must have a nice view from there lucky for you. My place has a view of my neighbors house both front and back : (. I think that's the point about mods-it's fun to do. It is a long drive though to Thunderhill at Willows about 2 1/2 hrs from SF towards Sacramento and starts at 7AM. My friend(E36 M3) and I went there and took the long route(3 hrs) suggested by Thunderhill but there's a shorter way. One of my other friend's is going to participate he has a 79 930 turbo which will be nice to see how that does which is "ALL OR NONE" handling as well as the m3 friend. I not sure how soft-tops work but I imagine you need a hardtop but if you're planning to go just call Thunderhill to make sure on that. It's great fun- you see alot of rice rockets/pushrods there and Porsches too. Regards. Mike (Email me if you plan to go we can all go at once email address [email removed])
