Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I saw this car a couple, maybe three years ago at a Porsche meet at Chatsworth House. I absolutely love the colour and I said to myself, if I ever get a PTS slot for a car I’d do it this colour. I wonder if anyone knows the car and as such, it’s colour - I’m guessing it’s Amethyst Metallic but I would love to know for sure - thanks in advance Edited by RSVP911 on Monday 7th February 21:53

More likely it’s Viola metallic. If it’s not Viola, it’s this : In which case the good folk at RPMT will be able to advise. Hope you’re well ?

POST 6Original post

MOT lookup says Purple, so it probably is Amethyst Metallic as that is the stock purple option that was available at the time.

POST 10Original post

I'm as certain as I can be that its Amethyst. I had a Cayman S of the same colour and vintage (mine was 10/2010). It's a lovely colour that really pops in the sun. But in the shade it looks like black. I thought the colour would be a bit marmite when I came to sell, but I believe the dealers sold it within 24 hours. Just had a look at the invoice and the list price of the paint then was £1,561.

Can’t help on actual colour purple other than to agree they seem to appear very different under different light conditions. BMW ‘s older colour Techno Violet is also similar as is my new R8 - Exclusive Merlin Purple. Apologies for posting an Audi here.

Hey H. hope you are well and thanks for your help - as confirmed earlier I think it is AM - I think SR is more brown. However now you’ve said they look crap I’m back to the drawing board - other contenders are : Dark Olive Metallic (current choice is AM is a no go) Or one of the greens ? Oak Green Metallic (feels over done) Forest Green Metallic Jet Green Metallic For a 992 GT3 & as this isn’t the nicest looking car Porsche have designed !!! I think a dark colour works better at hiding the size and plastic Edited by RSVP911 on Saturday 12th February 20:09

PTS is a bit of a misnomer - it’s just a bigger list of mostly Porsche colours that you can choose from - rather than any colour you want - there is a route for this but I can’t see anyone really using it as it would take so long you’d risk losing your slot

POST 32Original post

Yes, I recognise the Amethyst Metallic - same as mine which is also listed as M4Z (seems to also be known as N6) This paint looks very different in different light conditions, so bearing that in mind, quite difficult to appreciate what it looks like in real life or compare with similar colours. In strong sun it does look quite clearly purple, but in normal UK overcast conditions it is very dark, almost black to the causal observer. I get lots of people asking me what colour it is. I think it is a great colour. With a little sun there is some iridescence, a really beautiful metallic effect. I'd encourage people to consider it on new cars; rarely seen on the road and much more interesting and rewarding than plain black/white. However, not sure what Porsche were thinking with the yoghurt coloured Taycan. Maybe you'd grow to love it!? Edited by Coder on Saturday 12th February 23:33

PTSGT4 said: For instance, it doesn't look as purple as this picture in normal daylight, presumably strong lighting in a showroom

In that case, I also quite like this color: Cyclamen Red Metallic https://www.colors.rs/colorsearch?tag=lPk8QxZZp~&a... and Midnight Purple Pearl https://www.colors.rs/colorsearch?tag=8tcFCingv2&a... I think the main thing is, for a 992 I would choose a shiny/metallic color and probably one of the darker ones [although the pics of the - I think GT Silver - 992 Touring I saw somewhere also looked great].

POST 35Original post

There's no brown in Amethyst. As I posted up thread in the sun its pops purple, but in the shade its very nearly black. I've posted below a picture of my old Cayman in the sun. I would definetly consider spec'ing it if I was looking at PTS, but I notice that you've mentioned my favourite Porsche colour of all time (Dark Olive Metallic), so you must have good taste

I think you either need to go full contrast - White or say Signal Yellow or try and mask it by making it tonal - I think it looks good in Black & Gentian, but as I have a PTS slot I don’t want to waste it - may never get the chance again.
