Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Happy to share the experience I encountered yesterday, when I was deciding on which car to purchase the Targa or the C4s, since the targa was fully loaded and also a six speed, I choose the C4S, after speaking with a few different dealers salespersons. I did'nt get it at sticker however, I paid $4K over, has anyone ordered or taken delivery at MSRP. I will post pictures and more on the driving experience. I will add, that I was sold, when the sales mgr, on a narrow country road, said" Watch this ( as the car was traveling at 75 mph) as he slammed the brakes on and had his hands off the steering wheel, the car came to a sudden stop without veering off to either sides and held its line as it stoped. More latter...

POST 2Original post

I just ordered a c4s this morning at MRSP. It's for a April 30th build. Seal Grey , Black full leather, Advanced technique package, carbon gearshift/brake, and heated seats. The dealership had a customers car just in so I could actually see it in "all its glory". It's going to be so so painful waiting for delivery. In a few weeks I'll be wishing I paid 4k above sticker! In fact giving the opportunity I'd have done the same thing Anyway , please post some pictures. It'll help me pass the time until May !

POST 3Original post

Congrats! I am going tomorrow to either order a C4 Cab in Blk/blk/blk or AS/blk/blk or maybe, just maybe buy the white one on the lot.... Enjoy your ride and use it in good health Quibbles When you care enough to send the very best*

POST 4Original post

I ordered a 02 C4S last week from MCL Porsche in VAncouver Canada at MSRP for July build before the factory closes, should be here late August. They are expecting their first one in the showroom any day now.

POST 5Original post

Danny, Congrats! I had been looking around and was ready to order a C4S about two months ago (to come in the spring). After speaking to a few different sales men from different Porsche dealers I worked my way down to about $2000 less than MSRP, and they were going to throw in something (I forget exactly what it was). However, after much thought and speaking to many more people, I decided to cancel the order and look for a 993tt. About two weeks ago, I found a Black/Grey 97 993tt. It was perfect, and now it sits in my garage. I payed less than what many people have been paying for these cars. I guess you could say that I am frugal, but I take pride in it. Best of Regards -Steve

POST 6Original post

What made you choose the 993tt over the C4S? And how much did you pay for what condition?

POST 7Original post

C2, I chose the 993tt over the 996C4S for several reasons. First I think that the turbo is a more classic car, especially the 993 with the old body and air-cooled engine, second of all, it will be worth more in a couple years, and third of all the power of a twin turbo 408hp as opposed to 320hp. The car is in great condition. In that period of two months I saw about 5 cars that I liked, and this was the cleanest one. It had 15,900 miles, and It was most definitely the best deal I could have gotten. The car is in perfect mechanical and physical condition and the Porsche dealer I purchased it from gave me new tires, a 30,000 mile service and a one year Porsche Certified warantee. -Steve

POST 8Original post

Danny Congratulations on your new Porsche....never ask what others paid, just enjoy the experience and don't let "pricing" remorse creep in and put a damper on all the fun you are about to have with your new Porsche Have Fun!

POST 9Original post

I was out my local P dealer today and had the luxury of seeing a artic silver, red, and a black C4S. They also had a Grey targa as well. The C4S is incredible looking, the crispness of the crease on the front spoiler it beautiful. I was thoroughly impressed. I am a 993 owner and am currently looking for a 'S' body or tt myself, but after seeing the 4S in person, decision time. I was told by this particular dealer, if I ordered today (targe, 4s or turbo) I could see it in 3 months. So for those waiting on or getting targa or 4s, one sweet ride. I'll keep you posted on what I decide. Congrats !!!

POST 10Original post

Hi Guys and Gals, Im a 99 996 owner and also sell Porsches and Audis at the local dealer. We just got our first C4S in the other day. I actually have the first two, out of five we will get this year, sold to friends I have meet at autocrosses and DE events Ive been to. The C4S is the most beautiful car known to man. Of course, its opinion. As for selling price, sticker. No more, no less. We are not out to gouge anyone, and are not here to lose money. I personally wouldnt mind paying over sticker for a car like this, they will make far less than Turbo models. The Turbos were commanding upwards of $200,000.00 when first introduced. Now they can be had for $100,000.00 or less at highline auctions. We have had many regular customers just show up at the lot lately to just look at the car. I say get one if you can get on a list. We are sold out for the first two years.

POST 11Original post

Mr. Murray, It was very good of you to identify yourself as a car dealer. Your perspective is interesting. Your statements do however beg to be addressed. I have seen the new C4S and have thought it to be a beautiful car since I laid eyes on the first photos available at my local Porsche dealer in September. Having driven the 2002 C2 at that time, I was amazed at the improvement over the first edition 996. I am sure that the C4S is even more remarkable, although I have not driven the car.In fact, I even placed a deposit on the car in October. I was able to negotiate a $2200 discount on the car, which is what leads me to my first disagreement with you. I have had the luxury of having viewed the DEALER INVOICE information and I know the DEALER MARK-UP to be in the neighborhood of $13,000 U.S. on a standard car with advanced technic package. So, how silly does it sound to say that you are worried about losing money on the car by offering a fair discount ? Would it break the bank if you only made $10k on a sale? Give me a break! You know that many Porsche dealers had to heavily discount their 2001s this Fall just to decrease the inventories and Porsche certainly does not offer any wonderful financing options to make up for their significant dealer mark-ups. You,yourself, acknowledge the significant mark-ups that Turbos once brought into the coffers of Porsche dealers. I know the same to be true for the few out there that can afford GT2s. A dealer called me to tell me that he had one available at $20k over retail. Wow, I am gonna jump at that! A friend of mine had purchased a heavily optioned 2001 C4 new last Spring for $92k and it was resold from the dealer after he traded it in 4 months later with 5k miles on it. The dealer resold the car for $71k. And also that now,as you said, the $200k turbos bring less than $100k in highline auctions. So tell me, don't you think that the crazy prices people paid at the peak of the stock market were somewhat crazy now that things have settled down. What will that C4S be worth once it is just another used car the day after it drives out the showroom? What is a fair price? By the way, the Porsche dealer that I was going to deal with is a true gentleman and I respect him. He understood the realities. I ultimately cancelled my order and got an impeccable '97 993tt with 15k miles and an original MSRP of $119k for less than the MSRP of the new C4S with all services and more and Porsche certification warranty and with no luxury tax. As great as the new C4S must be, it does not come close to the 993tt in performance and thrills. I lucked out because the resale market is soft right now. How credulous do you think Rennlist readers are? Steve

POST 12Original post

Danny Congratulations on your new C4S!!! Looking forward to seeing you car in person. John

POST 13Original post

Congratulations. I picked up my C4S (Rainforest Green) on Saturday. It was at MSRP, but that was on the East coast, and I waited since last April for it. The car is awesome. You'll have a lot of fun.

POST 14Original post

Reference to markup...I'm not a dealer but I used to own a business. The profit margin is only part of the equation. The other is the number of units sold. For instance in my business if I had dropped my selling price by 10% I would have to sell 1/3 more items to re-capture that profit I lost. Everyone loves a discount but the law of supply and demand prevails in a free market. Watch what happens when a dealer becomes overstocked. Look at MY 99. Sticker prices now help to offset discounts in the future. What is going to happen to the MY 03 when supposedly the 997 comes out. It may be something like what is happening in 02 for previous MY's. It's business and thank goodness we have choices.
