When shopping for floor mats I noticed that there's the "
Bose
" mats have a big scallop out of the passenger mat.
I have
Bose
badges on my door trims, the big engine cover mounted speaker unit and vin data shows "
Bose
surround sound".
However, I noticed last night that the passengers side foot well doesn't not appear to require any such scalloping of a floor mat.
An I missing something? Are their different
Bose
packages?
Cheers,
Julian
I believe the Boxsters don't require the floor mat cut out because the woofer for the
Bose
is above the engine deck, where as with the
Cayman
, it is down in the passenger floor well.
I’d like to hear a
Cayman
with sub, I wonder which one sounds better? I was surprised when I took out the sub on the
Boxster
, all it has in there is two small 4-5” woofers. It’s all about the resonance chamber.
Wow, that's some level of detail and knowledge you have!! Thanks for sharing.
It's a typical
Bose
subwoofer setup in both cars, just a slightly different configuration.
Bose
's sub concept is always pairing smallish long-throw drivers with a big chamber. In the
Cayman
the sub unit is at the floor of the passenger side, against the center console. It works pretty well if you do the "packing" mod (filling the chamber with pillow stuffing).
I did the stuffing mod on my
Boxster
sub, it helps so much. Gets rid of that plastic-sounding echo and now you can turn up the bass. I used an old sweater and just cut it into pieces.
What is the "stuffing mod"? One of the goals for my eventual stereo upgrade is to get more power and bass if possible.
You take the subwoofer out, flip it over, take it apart. (A whole bunch of torx screws) Then fill the cavity with some type of insulation material, I just used a sweater cut into pieces, and screw it back together. The bass will sound much better after.
OK, that's pretty much what I thought. I used to use fiberglass insulation back in the day I made my own subwoofers.
interesting , how do you get the sub woofer out , does the panel just pop out ? What year are you talking
987.1
or
987.2
Removing the subwoofer box is just a matter of putting the top into service mode, two hand twist cam fasteners, and unplugging the wire connector. The picture here is for the storage box for non-
Bose
cars, but the
Bose
subwoofer is basically the same.
