POST 1Original post

Booked. For continued research and developement purposes. Come on, who else? DAZ

POST 2Original post

I'm booked down to go. I turned up at the last Brunters run (late) in a friends Skyline GTR and very embarrassingly we didn't even complete one run and had a thoroughly enjoyable 4 hour trip back home on an AA Transporter...... After seeing so many lovely 911s at that event it re-kindled my love for the old German autobahn-muncher, so I bought a 993 RS 3.8 last week. Amazing road-feel, sound and fun...... I might bring this along (I know it won't break), or I might bring along one of my Skyline GTRs, which are much, much faster (but more fragile). Guy

POST 3Original post

Guy, you may be only dimly aware of how much the Skyline saga meant to the P-car people at Bruntingthorpe. Absolutely instant justification for ALL (and I mean ALL) the money lavished on the cherished 911/944/968/964/993/996/TT/X50/RS whatever. I hope your RS is better behaved!! Cheers, Maurice.

POST 4Original post

Maurice, I did guess that, hence why we left so quickly. I've always known that Porsche are simply the best built sports cars (had a 964 a while ago), however I do still have a thing for the Skylines. My R34 GTR went to Germany and back last year for the 24 Hr Race at the Nurburgring and we did 200mph on the autobahn with three 6 foot adults and a bootfull of bags, no problem, something no 911 could do. My R32 is also one of the few chances anyone on the planet gets to drive a 1000bhp car on the road (it dynoed 831bhp at the axles recently even with a misfire). That said, it was a fantastic pleasure to get back into a 911 again and hear the wonderful aircooled roar. It was also a pleasure to drive a non-turbo car again, made me remember what instant throttle response is. The brakes on the RS are simply amazing and are what has impressed the passengers most so far. Guy

POST 5Original post

Daz I'm in, want to try a couple of standing starts this time (is JezzaC going). sorting 6th gear, but wont be done in time Paul

POST 6Original post

Guy - I like the fact you don't muck about... Buying a 993RS 3.8 at the drop of a hat... top man The problem with running 831bhp with a miss is what damage it is doing to the engine while it is doing it. I had enough fun with Lotus Carlton engines and misfires.

POST 8Original post

UV email Craig via his profile. I'm sure he'll be delighted for you to attend. DAZ

POST 9Original post

Excellent news Paul. I have been told Jeremy will be attending by a third party, I've also been told a certain previous attendee will be wheeling his Ultima out rather than his BMW breadvan with only 3/4 throttle. I presume you're going with the shorter sixth gear as you and Alex were discussing last time. regards DAZ PS - interesting threads going on in the Cerbera and the Tamora/T350 forums. Some people believe decent sorted TVRs are quicker than Porker Turbos.

POST 11Original post

Interesting. As far as I know given more or less eqaulity between cars the one with the higher power to weitgh ratio should pull fastest, right ? I know there will be some other factors, eg gearing, but more or less it boils down to force=mass x acceleration, no ? So 450 bhp option on a 911 tt at around 1400 kgs = 321 bhp per tonne versus 400 bhp (claimed on a post for a standard tamora with 'power' option) at about 1000 kgs = 400 per tonne. The tamora should have it (assuming it didn't break down) Any one know for sure the power/weight figures ?

POST 12Original post

No, AFAIK, it's mainly a question of TORQUE overcoming DRAG. You will probably find that a 996 Turbo has spent half its life in a wind tunnel, whilst a Tamora diecast model (with wool attached) has spent three minutes in front of Peter Wheeler's wife's hair dryer... Check the torque... once mass is moving, the weight becomes less important IIRC. I bet a 996TT would dump on a Tamora in every measurement or increment.

POST 13Original post

More factors than that, but in my experience the influencing factors vary through speed: 0-30mph - Traction and bhp/ton are biggest factors 30mph - say 100mph bhp/ton is most important 100mph - 160mph+ - bhp and aerodynamic drag 160 mph+ bhp, but aero is now much more important As the car accelerates faster, progressively more of the power if being used to overcome aerodynamic drag rather than accelerate mass, so the weight of the car becomes progresssively less important at higher speeds, though the relationship is a complex multi-variate algorithm. Top Speed has very little relationship with mass...... Back to Tamora vs 996TT, the TT will win at every point in the curve based on data I've seen. Remember peak bhp is just one figure, it's area under the torque curve that matters for acceleration and a TT has tons of torque whereas a Tamora doesn't. Guy >> Edited by GuyR on Friday 4th April 14:58

POST 15Original post

993ttS = 450bhp@1540kg = 292bhp/tonne, in theory the Tamora should spank the porker. Based on these figures I'll keep quiet rather than getting egg on face Paul P.S. I'd still have a tenner on Darren!

POST 16Original post

Read this... All will be reavealed..... www.pumaracing.co.uk/topspeed.htm

POST 17Original post

And where's the weight in a 911? All on top of the driven wheels, just where you want it for getting off the line..... I rest my case. Melv

POST 18Original post

Or smoking the back end in the car park at Oulton, was that you Paul

POST 19Original post

It is intersting if you look back over the recent Bruntingthorpe excursion. The Turbos cars had it on the day by some margin, however if you consider we had a very well driven TVR Cerbara 4.5 litre which I beleive are 380 bhp in standard trim weighing around 1100kg.This car achieved 159mph as a best speed on the day. I was astounded to see a regular 3.6 C2 with 316bhp coming in at 1360kg achieving 158mph.The Carrera was driven by a pleasant chap who from what I understand had little trackday experience. Now this is one of Blackpools more brutal cars in line with a cooking C2!!! it goes to show drag, position of weight, gearing, torque and no doubt many other factors make a contribution to how a car actually performs in the real world. Clearly you cannot go by the stats in the back of car magazines for true comparisons.

POST 20Original post

Well said that man. Don't believe the magazines and stats, get out and drive them all. DAZ

POST 21Original post

It is also a proven fact that porsche quoted bhp is that which would be produced by the worst example leaving the factory, with most cars producing over the quoted amount. TVR on the other hand will only match their quoted power outputs with the 'prepared' press car. Most customer cars will be up to 20% down on quoted power. This has been proven time again when Rover V8 and AJP8 engines cars have been dynoed. Of course they still feel quick because they are so light. Guy PS I have owned 2 TVRS and driven every model so am talking from experience.

POST 32Original post

Torque vs weight (if traction is good enough) should give accelleration, whereas Drag vs power should give v.max. On a relatively short course the faster car would be the one with the best torque to weight figure and the correct gearing. If that car also had good traction (4wd?) then the contest would be even more one sided...

I don't need bleedin' Ultimae clouding the consternations! Plus, the sight of a Diablo as well will send me right off on one... Aaargh!!! I can smell the already! Cheers

POST 38Original post

DeR Phone home and get Mrs DeR to set the video ofr BBC2 7.30pm. There is a car program on tonight which involves someone looking at buying a sportscar. Apparently they have the 996tt as a contender. Lets see if the lucky chap wants something to pose in or the finest road weapon money can buy. DAZ PS - Verysideways and Bluesatin you have mail. Ultraviolent why is your name not on the list?

POST 39Original post

It is with the deepest of regret I have to announce the Ultima family will not be represented at our event. A petition would not change matters as the Ultima factory are having a bloody open day at the same time. It would appear many owners of the marque would rather meet for tea and a natter rather than caning the arse off their cars on airfields. Currently I'm at a loss for words. Of the Ultima owners I've met, I never imagined they'd be so interested in drinking tea and nattering. DAZ

The Ratburger van has happily confirmed attendance so we won't go hungry & I'm close to being able to give you a final cost, again, sorry its taken so long but I have had a lot of uncertainty on numbers which has meant the price changing - it should be around the £150 mark though(although I'm still bargaining to get a better rate - I am a broker after all). ps. Also check tyre pressures please. I'd also advise checking all levels, oil, brakes & coolant(for the non aircooled people) PLease remember that this is a private booking and the usual rules apply. You are responsible for your own safety & I accept no responsibility for any damage, injuries or loss. Helemets are optional and all cars must be road legal. We are aiming to kick off around 10.30 and carry on until about 4.30 or until we run out of petrol! My sources tell me the local constabulary will be out in force so please take care getting to and from the airfield, believe me you'll have plenty of opportunity to push yourselves and your cars once we arrive! POST 54Original post

There is a largish sainsburys in the nearest town Lutterworth, where you can park in their car park, and use the breakfast menu, if anyones interested, as the burgernator van was a bit slow off the mark last time getting ready Rich

POST 55 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

are you planning on coming Rich, got your email but mine is only sending out sporadically & I hadnt heard from you before, need to know asap as had closed the book &getting cheques in but may have 1 dropout.

POST 56Original post

Guys I would LOVE to come to this run, unfortunately have work commitments,I just wanted to ask you all to be sure that the HONOURS GO TO PORKERS, I have a feeling that after the last trip the "sneaky" competition may have something up their sleeve. DAZ I hope you have been practicing your starts & stops again, would love to see you blitz the opposition.

POST 57Original post

Had to pull out chaps -Cup Car broke a rocker arm at Goodwood last Monday, + down on compression test same cylinder -unlikley to be ready by next Sunday -Doh! Melv

POST 58Original post

That's a bugger, Melv. Still, can't you come along anyway? I'm quite looking forward to seeing one or two of 'the lads' for a drop of diet Tizer. DeR.

POST 59Original post

Melv Sorry to hear about the problem. DeR's right, come along anyway From what Craig has said a large percentage of attendees will be coming from the South East. Email him and see if you can sort a lift with someone in something interesting rather than pootling up in something sensible. cheers DAZ

POST 60Original post

I'm bringing my car this time, anyway, so a tame 150MPH for those of the 'Cup and saucer ride' can hitch a lift if they like

POST 61Original post

Dear Brunternites; Just a quickie: my man Reginald dropped orf a few choice snaps of the non-digital variety this PM; all wonderful, of course but the crowning glory has to be quite the most delectable side on of Tony's gleaming schwartz Diablo with it's minted Oz originals; it still screams SUPERCAR! like nothing else before or since. Please bring it again, Tony (grovel!)

POST 62Original post

Der, Good that your'e back...have you been in the garage finding ways to make the TT even quicker, any news or revelations Sir??

POST 63Original post

DR - any chance of getting them scanned in so we can all have a gander? J

POST 64Original post

JTLPK - my fully upgraded car will be ready next week. Factory have been great about things post Brunters, and all is happy . Due to going a bit mad though I've had to wait for the 6 speed box (it was all getting tooooo expensive ), but it will have LSD, new 2.5l fully upgraded engine, 3.0l style exhausts and the trackday sump. Now I've just got to tell Nick about the cost Trackday anyone???

POST 65Original post

Excellent news, Sir J; when you refer to an upgraded 2.5 unit, what exactly does that mean (ito of changes/performance - or is it just the anti-gravity device which was obviously much needed )? Is this cheaper than a full 3.0 litre swap? You know, I think the Noble probably is my second favourite car right now; and for pure B-road blats, I'm sure you have the best thing on ze planet. Utterly superb!

POST 66Original post

Err - I'm not actually quite sure. The move up to 3.0l was about £10k ( ) so I binned that idea and have gone for the latest and greatest 2.5l engine. According to Tony "customer satisfaction is my middle name" C at the factory (top top bloke!) he's putting in an ECU that "rocks" . They will then fiddle with it and give it back to me. All I know at the moment is that it has two (yes two) lamda's - so that's impressive on it's own - means tuning is much easier :soiamtold: No idea what happens to the power (330+ish I think), but it's a seriously good engine (it was one of their very last 2.5's before they moved to the 3.0's), and gives me more options as the "spare change for toys" tin gets replenished over the coming months. Add that to the LSD (which I've also got a cracking deal on), track day sump and the "new improved" exhaust system (custom made for us 2.5'ers that require the 'finer art' of gas expellation) and I have a little idea that I'll need some sort of "white hole" around to let the others on the track have a chance And once I've had the new gear box fitted (I just couldn't afford it this time around!) then the engine can still be tweaked much higher - oh joy I'm now just an impaitent school kid (if somewhat lighter in the monetary department). How's you quest going? J

POST 67Original post

Wonderful. 'Er indoors keeps mentioning a Noble in the locale (I've exposed her several times to the creation chez local dealer) with what must be said, some favourable inflexion to the commentary. Do you think they might depreciate significantly over the next few months (what with the 3.0 litre being 'the one to have,' as it were)? I do think the car has quite the finest rear three quarter aspect to it this side of an F355; the fact that it out Elises the namesake of Artiolli's grand daughter and leaves an EVO for dead on the straight too, might just be enough to override the long time desire for 8000 screaming Italian stallions...now there's a dilemma! You've gotta hand it to LN & Co; pretty much a masterpiece in a very short period of time; what on earth will they come up with in a few years?

POST 68 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Joust, cant believe you've made it even quicker, I'm not coming in it again Mind you I expect GregE240 would say same to me.

POST 69Original post

Rather an "expensive" day for me all in all - but hell, with the engine out it would be rude to not "fettle" the odd thing or two wouldn't it. More than welcome back in it again - just next time don't give me the same number again (not that I'm superstious or anything...) J

POST 70Original post

There are some around for the £40k mark, now given your current stable surely the household will not be "restricted" by "derestricted" in your choice of car www.pistonheads.com/ads/list.asp?p=1&s=108 even has numero uno car at £35k! Tempted????? J

POST 71Original post

It's being sold by Riaz, a mate at work... give me a call if you want it and I'll arrange a chinese burn before negotiations start... >> Edited by domster (moderator) on Thursday 15th May 17:29

POST 72Original post

Why's he selling it so quick? It was up for sale not so long ago - I remember some girl posing next to it.... can't remember who it was though. J

POST 73Original post

Nah, he was selling it originally. Plenty of calls but no one bit, then the ad disappeared off PH... His original ad had Vikki Butler Henderson draped over it. He is selling it to buy a house. Sadly, he hardly ever brings it into work, so I am yet to blag a ride etc. Cheers Dom

POST 74Original post

Ah! That explains it..... Your welcome to a blast in mine anytime you see me! J

POST 75Original post

Oh - domster - your crazy - a pugil stick event!!!!?????

POST 76Original post

£35k? That's a good sign for those of us with an increasing itch of an inclination Noble-bound, ultimately controlled by a sporran obsessed with infinite self-miniaturisation. I'm sure sub-£30k will be a going-rate (privately) in the not-too distant. It's wierd but I can just somehow imagine piloting one. Oh no...in the immortal words of David 'Late 80s Peroxide Alert' Coverdale, "Here I go again..." (sorry).

POST 77Original post

Cheers J. Have a real soft spot for them. Now if they'd be so good to put an M5 engine behind the seats...

POST 78Original post

Hmm - too heavy (would seriously upset the balance) and wouldn't fit! Plus I *like* turbos J

POST 79Original post

How about turbos on an M5 engine? Maybe that's what I need for the Ultima... LOL, interesting though, thinking about putting a compact V8 into the Noble. Would have suggested an AJP8... or even go for manic four pot 400bhp Hayabusa turbo... but that is ridiculous Forget it. It's a great car as it is. I will worry about what type of Chevy I need in the Ult. Cheers D

POST 80Original post

Sorry it's taken so long. Pictures up at www.lotus-elise.org.uk/My%20Slide%20Shows/Bruntingthorpe%20VMAX%20Track%20Day/ Diary of the events post Brunters are also at www.lotus-elise.org.uk/noble/diary.htm after my "I'm not happy with this" event - Carig - bloddy expensive track day Right you buggers - when's the next one - I recon a good 10-15mph faster out of that bottom right hander now J [P.S.] Trousers too large boys >> Edited by joust on Sunday 25th May 22:25

POST 81Original post

Extra 10-15mph...cool....Does that mean you have taken the rear wing off??? I will be very interesting to see how much of an effect drag has over the improved exit speed of the first bend. Sounds awesome Joust,I will check your web out,,It will obviously take a little while to run the car and yourself in to the new set up then it will be even more amazing...have fun!

POST 84Original post

Due to Tony C @ the factory being the best bloke on the planet, the engine is already run in! Just means I have to get used to having a LSD on the back! J

POST 89 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

nice one Joust! Just got my car back, only needed geometry completely reset and a new set of tyres, all set for the next one now!

POST 90Original post

Time to get organising again then Craig? BTW, look no further for a marshall for next time - I really enjoyed it, despite the p-ing rain in the morning.

POST 91Original post

Let's just say mine needed a bit more than that :cough: J

POST 92 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I heard, bloody good lap before it went pop though. My pants still aren't clean

POST 93Original post

Mine needed new brake rotors and pads up front. Although I put this down to bad component build quality. DAZ :tryingtokeepastraightfacesmilie:

POST 94Original post

Joust; I've just heard that lap you gave to my fellow nowvan oink and I'm pleased to confirm that following his outrageous profanities 'on-cam,' he has not only been turfed oot of his small hovel but is this very instant being set upon by the mastif after which he will be roundly beaten and then banished to Essex. (Huge for the Noble though; I must concur with the sentiments regarding it's status as "the fookin' daddy.")

POST 95Original post

Just to let you know the new improved Noble outperformed everything I was near at Bedford today on the Autocar Noble track day. Nothing broke, nothing went bang, and the LSD is the "Daddy" Full report with piccies/videos in the next few days. J

POST 96Original post

Can you keep me informed if there is another Brunters day please? I have heard that the 'certifiable fruitcake' in his 'mad labrador carrying blue RS4' has now added 2x4lb NOS bottles to his setup

POST 98Original post

I`m ready & waiting for the next Brunters day.Can I have 5 places please Craig! Henry. ps.Porsche Factory Tour was brilliant last week.Spa in GuyR`s 993 RS wasn`t bad either.

POST 99Original post

Did you check out any Lhd Gt3 in Germany while you were there Henry?

POST 100 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

guys. Have had lots of you mentioning you'd like to do it again, pls drop me an email if so, looking like a sunday in late July, same deal as before.

POST 101Original post

Craig, a new topic for this may not be a bad idea. I'm thinking others might think we were still banging on about THAT day.... Greg PS - YHM.

POST 102Original post

Slightly off topic, but a friend of mine was sent a video of a (very) tuned escort cosworth doing the following 0-60 2.89 0`100 6.06 1/4 10.66 vmax 194.7 from standstill at Bruntingthorpe on road legal tyres Something to aim for everyone? Sparks

POST 103Original post

Amazing...with the aerodynamics of an Escort Cosworth with that big wing on the back,I would imagine that car must be pushing out way over 500bhp!!!

POST 104Original post

A few calcs suggest 600 fwhp is required, if the 300 bhp version can do 160mph..... Large turbo's any one....

POST 105Original post

I believe (and have verified it with the 'cartest' software I have) that on optimax it pushes out 580bhp & 550 lbft On racing fuel, it is reported to be 620bhp. Bit nippy then Sparks

POST 106 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Meant to post this yesterday , apologies it went on other boards first. Dear all, You may have read about previous max speed runs & fun had on the 2 mile straight. A few of us at work have booked Bruntingthorpe to go again and have some fun. It is looking like we may have limited space available if any of you are interested in coming along. The day is Sunday April 27th and will be from around 11am to around 4.30 pm, will probably involve around 6 maximum speed runs, these will be electronically recorded and also then displayed on electronic boards around 100m after the speed traps. We currently have varying cars going from TVRs, Porsches, Ferrari's to a replica Cobra and a few other interesting cars. The 2 mile straight is very wide and smooth & we will only be running 2 cars on the runway at any one time. If you are interested please drop me an email, it should be good!
