Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

13 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Guys, Iv had my 996 Carrera 2 for 4 weeks now and I noticed last night when taking it for a drive that the oil pressure was running exsessivley between 4 & 5 while driving it and idleing at 3... Once it warmed up though it seem to settle down to normal.. Is this normal?

POST 2Original post

Sounds about right, I can only go by my experience of my last Porsche 964. when cold should be 4-5 and when warm should hover around the 2 mark.

POST 3Original post

Perfectly normal :thumb: Now you can get on with worrying about IMS, RMS, Depreciation  TB

POST 5Original post

All normal. The oil pressure gauge is as follows: Cold start, any revs: 5 bar Fully warmed, idle: 2 bar or less (dependent on exact model, engine wear, oil grade used - 1.5 bar or extreme 0.8 bar when very hot and racing). Fully warmed, 3.5k+ rpm: 5 bar. Note: as the 996 has no oil temp gauge, and the water temp gauge is a leading indicator, waiting until the oil pressure drops to 2 bar or below at idle is the safest way to guarantee the engine is at operating temp.

POST 7Original post

What he said. It's actually nice to have an oil pressure guage, gives you a much better idea of when the oil is up to operating temperature than just looking at a water temp guage... :thumb:

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks a lot GT4, thats put my mind at rest, very knowledgable, thanks again.. Sav

POST 11Original post

You're very polite Sav, but this isn't the Oscar's. You only need thank us all or name us, no need for a post each (there are far more creative ways to bump your post count!).

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Lol, just getting the hang of postings.....thanks guys....

POST 13Original post

Thanks for covering this so well, it is a question I have had in the back of my mind, when I gotmy C4 Cab it was overfilled by a liter so I have always had a a slight worrie.
